Got a match today teeing off at 5.00, Greensomes.
1st time playing this format. Has anyone else played it?
What did you think? Enjoyable? Any tactic advice?
Leaving for the course at 4.15

unfortunately I have only ever played it on Tiger Woods on my Xbox, but since I tried it on the game I have always wanted to have a go for real. Seems pretty fun to me and could be a bit of a laugh if you're playing with the right people (apologies if having a laugh is not desirable for this particular match) but one thing I would say is that if it were me playing, I would encourage the longer hitter to try and get as far up the hole as possible in the hope he hits the fairway whilst the other makes sure that he hits the fairway regardless of distance. If the longer hitter does hit the short stuff your going to be in great shape, and if not you'll hopefully still have a ball on the fairway which will still give you a good chance of scoring well. Althoguh take this with a pinch of salt...my only experience of the format is on a computer game where me (an 18 handicap) can achieve scores of 57 for a round. If only it was that simple in reality.

Haha Cheers for that. I'm hoping that it's going to be fun as I always have fun when I win. Not sure though, as I kind of quite like playing my own ball. Any time I've played a texas scramble I don't seem to enjoy it as much as everyone else does.

If you're comfortable with your partner and he's comfortable with your game it can be fun. Do you play foursomes with him as well? If so it shouldnt be too different from that ither than the tee shots.

I play it at a golf weekend with some mates, throws up some interesting situations sometimes.

Good fun format, only downside is if you consistently hit further than your partner from the tee and are hitting it straight then you won't get to hit hardly any second shots.

I got paired up with big driver from my club and we did very well playing this format. Mostly we took his drives, I played the second, he hit the first putts/chips/pitch, and I tidied up. We were unbeaten for ages. I didn't enjoy it that much though....a round of medium irons and nervy short putts....hardly a game to savour!

I'm playing Greensomes this coming Saturday in an Open comp. at Conwy Golf Club. I've played ths format alot and really enjoy it.

Has anybody played Yellowsomes?

It's like Greensomes, both drive off then alternate shots after that, but with a bit of a twist, your playing partners pick which the drive you'll be playing.

I think this is also called 'Gruesomes'

Yellowsomes sounds like an interesting format, although not one i'd be too keen on. The minute you, or your partner stuffs their tee shot into the rubbish the other player might as well not bother teeing off. Sods law says they'll nail it down the middle and it's all in vain.

I've heard of, but never played, a variation of this that only allows the opponents to pick say 9 tee-shots and of another that allows them to pick only one shot per hole.

Won 4&2 last night. Had fun. My driving was atrocious but my partner bailed us out so ended up hitting more than my share of 2nd shots.
Don't fancy Yellowsomes I have to say.

Thanks.
Like I said, I enjoyed because I won so I don't have much choice about playing it again as we're through to the next round, but if I had a choice, I would rather play fourball betterball.

The good part is that you get to choose your opponents drives. If you ever want to feel pressure this is the game (except for foursomes).

Well done on your win
