Looking for some advice

We have just had a Greensomes Comp

It was set up on IG with the correct HC allowance and with the rules explaining the HC allowance - 60% of the Lower and 40% Higher

A few people who don't use the website said they didn't know about the comp so a notice was done by the office to let people know the comp was on

But on the notice they had the HC allowance the wrong way round - 60% Higher and 40% of the Lower - so people went out and played but when they came to put their scores onto the computer they were obviously got less shots than they thought and their score was less than expected

Now it seems most didn't have a problem apart the club "rules expert" who said that the sheet on the pro shop was "legally binding" for entrance and a number of the mixed pairs who have complained

So I have been asked to see if the result would have been different on the "wrong HC allowance" - which it wouldn't

The main issue which is being pointed out - the winner pair was me and my PP - so been asked for a second person to check the results ?

For fellow HC sec how would you approach this ?

What do you plan on doing if it did produce a different result? Seems a bit of a rocky road to go down to me. If you are going that way then surely the right option is just to get another committee member to check the results?

1. Get someone else (qualified) to check the results.

2. Note to self...Get Office to notify you when they publish comp related notices and remember to check them and they include reference to Conditions of Competition as 'Bible'.

3. Make Conditions of Competition (which should Handicap allowances) available (Master on Website; printed copy on Noticeboard.).

4. Apologise for the confusion! As Head of Comps, it's YOUR responsibility, even if the glitch/blunder was by someone else!

The fact that you won (either way) is slightly 'unfortunate' but a complete coincidence/distraction! Congrats though!

In no particular order....

1. The correct results were published.
2. The sheet from the office was an administrative error and could be corrected anyway.
3. The error didn't cost anyone in terms of their entitlement - and even if it had the committee are entitled to make a decision on the outcome (33-1/12 gives an extreme example; way beyond what happened here)
4. The committee (not the handicap sec or handicap committee) should apologise for any possible confusion and confirm the results in line with correct handicapping basis.
5. The rules expert should of course be asked for the relevant ruling upon which he has based his opinion before hand - it's only polite.
