Six protesters from Greenpeace are attempting to climb UK's tallest building, The Shard, as we speak!

eejits. what do they think this will achieve except public resentment due to road closures, policing costs etc etc. hope they fall off quick. job done.

So let me get this straight.

There are some folk here hoping that 6 protesters creating a minor inconvenience actually die during that protest?

Offends my sense of humanity. But maybe it's me!

While I'm not a huge supporter of several of their policies, I do rather admire the way in which they get, or certainly got, their message across.

I was woken up rather rudely in a birthday trip to Auckland when some (French) Government sponsored terrorism and murder occurred in 1985, the anniversary being yesterday.

They're protesting against Shell drilling in the Arctic.

There you go then, they've achieved what they wanted. I certainly didn't know about the drilling before the media attention that is being raised. They've even managed to have a Golfing forum discuss it. These exploits are all about raising awareness rather than aiming to force a change directly. Job done. (My question was rhetorical btw)

They're protesting against Shell drilling in the Arctic. If and when they get to the top they'll unfurl some "artwork" that will explain more I believe.

Not quite sure what connection The Shard has with Shell [if any]... But no doubt London taxpayers will be picking up the bill for the police and paramedics being in attendance...

foxholer - I think we must live in our own little corner of the forum you and I on such matters as these. I never realised that such a large proportion of golfers were so reactionary (nicest word I can think of). Alternative view point could be that 6 guys are putting their lives at risk to make a statement about something they really believe in whilst the rest of us sit around moaning about this, that and the other - and actually do nothing about changing what we don't like or are opposed to.

More power to them. And if it disrupts folk getting from A to B - then hey - their job is done.

Supposedly central to Shell's main London offices (3 of them). So visible an so will the 'artwork' be. Shard is 'modeled on shard of ice'! Sounds a bit of n excuse to me, but that's the way they work!

Their 'job' is now done! Its got the required attention... So now they should be coming down as worst case scenario they are potentially risking others lives... Married to a 'tree hugger' so do have a great sympathy with their cause... But, I repeat, they've completed their task... Now please come down...
