So I had arranged to play at Bolton Old Links this morning with Liverbirdie, GaryfromDerry and Odvan. Odvan cried off as he was still out drinking at 4am so the 3 of us set off.

It was Greenkeeper's revenge day, something I have not come across before but it only took until the 1st green to get an idea of what we were in for. The flag was at the back of the green and we all played decent shots towards the flag only to find it was a dummy and the hole was right at the front with just a 12 inch plastic rod sticking out of it.

LB putted first, just missed the hole and the ball rolled off the green to the bottom of the slope after 4 attempts at putting back up the hill only for the ball to return to his feet he picked up, me and Gary couldn't stop laughing but we both safely 2 putted.

A couple of holes later and we were faced with this green

Both LB and Gary had to chip from the green.

We also had guess which flag

And then we came to the hole where they really did get revenge on LB

First of all he had to on the green again, but hit it too far then after a fluff chipped it to 2 inches and knocked it in with the back of his wedge as he couldn't be bothered to walk over to get his putter where he had left it laying against the hose. Sadly he didn't bother to pick it up after he had holed out and it wasn't until we had reach the next green that he remembered it.
As that hole was a long downhill par 5 he had rather a long walk back.

To add the final insult he had pay out to both of us at the end of the round.

It really was fun with plenty of laughs, and would be great for a bigger meet up next year.

Never seen that before

Like,the idea

Might suggest it to the golf director as something to do on the Bank Holiday days

Ours was last weekend, always a great laugh as we have some wicked positions to put pins but this year they were even on the bank beside the green!

Ours is done at Christmas time and there are no prizes given as the entry fees are given to the greens team as a xmas bonus. If you go on YouTube and search you can find a great video of one club that does it around May time, they have some great positions!

Good fun this today. initially when I heard there was stuff on the greens I was dubious but then intrigued. Turned out to be quality craic.

False flags, obstacles were the order of the day front 9. Back 9 they just put them on wicked slopes. Found the back 9 much harder.

I will post a few videos later.

Sounds like a good day Louise. I bet it was a bit chilly up there today.
I can't believe LB left his putter there. It's long enough walking down that par 5 Never mind back up it :)

I haven't played it for a while but I heard BOL has been in great nick this year.

Excellent idea for a 'fun' day! Only Greenkeeper's revenge I'd heard of before was on a Captain's Day at Chartham Park many years ago - where the pins were placed in the hardest positions possible on every green - including a slope that a Cat 1 player 5 putted from 4 feet on!

Is golf not hard enough without any of that nonsense? :ooo:

Whatever hair I have left, would have been left as another obstacle for the groups behind.

Fun my a**e

That's looks like great fun. Wild day for it though.

Not sure what it is but this year but Bolton, Horwich and Chorley have been as windy as I can remember.

I think winter hill acts like a judge conduit for al the wind in the northwest

On another note.

Garry - that jacket of yours is a right Bobby dazzler. I'm surprised I never saw you from my back garden in Wigan with that thing on. :)
