Was playing on one of our courses today and I noticed one of the par threes on the other course had been dug up.

To describe it best at around three foot intervals there was a core taken out around 8-10 inch diameter, then this had been dug out to the drainage shingle. This had been done over the entire green with maybe 50 or so holes across the green.

Anyone have any idea what was being done?

Must be a drainage reason to it , that must be where the water collects on the green and is often softer then the rest of the greens , so they putting in extra drainage in that area to cure a problem they must be having

Think you may have hit the nail on the head there, i have not played that course much through the winter due to it being quite wet. This hole is quite high up though and from what I remember has been a winter green quite often so could well be drainage issues. Does look quite dramatic though

Done similar to one of our greens, 2m deep holes about 6" diameter, worked a treat(so far ), need to do a couple more greens, back in play a lot quicker than I thought it would be.

We have a pairs comp on that course Saturday so it has got to recover rather quickly, they could however be replacing the plugs today so then there is nearly a week for the green to recover
