A very big:thup: to our Greenkeepers.
The Comp this morning was back on normal greens, fast running and with virtually no bobbling.
An excellent effort and I went out of my way to tell them so.

The comp itself, first Stableford of the year, was fairly encouraging. I carded 35, CVG matched it and Fragger amasses 37, although there was a suspicious blob on the 8th, a par 3 where he airmailed the green with his 2nd after a dodgy teeshot.
SSS is 37 points so unless CSS helps me - and we all know that doesn't happen - I've got 0.1 back, CVG is safely in the buffer and Fragger might get a cut....
Disappointed with bogeying the last 3 holes, a couple of dodgy chips, but lots of pars including the first 7 holes.
Thinking about it, to give an idea of my progress over the last year, a gross 76 last March would have seen me throwing cartwheels and expecting a healthy cut. Although I had 6 silly bogeys, it shows that the handicap isn't far wrong.
It bodes well for the season.

To clarify Fragger's blob - if he'd parred the hole instead of blobbing, he'd have to enter the "break 80" section of the Ping Play your Best comp...............

Always great when the course gets back on regular tees etc. Before this week we were back on the tees on all the par 3's. Was a great feeling, especially just wearing a polo, after months of living in the Under Armour. However we have gone back to mats this week just whilst they lay some new seed down. However it must be said the greens are getting more consistent although still a little soft (not that I'm complaining when you can most shots to stay on the green!)

Good shooting though, shame about the bogeys

Yeah was pleasantly surprised with the job they had done. Had one incident on the 6th where my ball rolled into a clump of sand and died. Think this had been from someones footprint rather than the greenkeepers.

We met the 2 fellas who were working on the course while we were on the 10th tee and they had just finished the 18th green. They looked knackered and were genuinely pleased when we told them they had done a cracking job.

Everything fell into place during the round as well as I ended up with 43 points, which should get me a nice cut to kick start the year.

Glad I took the day off now - its a much more enjoyable round during the week!

I've complained on here about the state of our greens and the amount of moss we had in them. The club got rid of the old greenkeepr eventually and the new guy has made huge strides in the 6 weeks or so he's been at it. A lot of the moss has gone already, they were pretty slick for the time of year on Saturday and to be honest once they've been tined and treated they have the potential to be right back

Nice shooting. We were hoping that scores might low due to the speed of the greens - half as fast again as they have been - but if your score is anything to go by the good old CSS is going down....

lucky sods, my place is in the worst condition ive seen it in the last 15 years. i played there the first week of the year and it was dire... i had 2 months away and played around 2-3 weeks ago and it was worse. friends played there today and couldnt believe how bad it was given its known to be one of the better muni's around here.

i wont be there until april medal, and if its no better im moving.

think weve got to remember, though it sometimes iooks like it,greenkeepers dont do these things deliberately to annoy us and mostly are trying to do a good job for our benifit!!i would rather have some poor greens for a couple of weeks now and get good greens in the height of summer(which my club usually manages).due to the mild winter and some good work personally i'd say my course is a good 3-4 weeks ahead of where it was last year:clap:bring it on!!!

My mate shot 32 points. Be interesting to see how the CSS goes though. Hard to say, I only hit 2 GIR all day and three putted on both occasions. Hit 3 GIR on saturday and did the same - a nasty habit developing lol.

Agree, the greens were very good considering what has been done to them over the last 2 days.

didnt play particularly well, but managed to score well, 2 x 4 pointers helped what would have been an average card, played the back 9 much better than the front, 29 putts was easily my best stat.

the annoying thing is that I know I could easily have knocked 6 or 7 off the score ,

My course was just about perfect last Saturday. Running fairways and the greens were as good and quick as they are in the summer. Must have been good as I only had 30 putts which with my dodgy short game, must be close to a record. Amazing how quickly the greens come on at this of the year with a dry warm spell.

Just hope our greenkeeper doesn't get poached by another club.
