Have two moments that stick in my memory:

My first eagle, drove the green on a short par 4 and slotted the short put thereafter. Never done that since.

First and only time to date I beat my dad at golf. Strong competitive streak in the men in my family so that would be up there with winning any competition.

as a newish player (18 months or so) dont have many "great" memories, but the best has to be an Eagle on a Par 5. Great tee shot, second shot to within 40 yards and chipped onto the green for it to roll in. Priceless....

(7th hole, "the Bristol", hole is called something like "the camels back" and has blind tee and blind second shot (as your in between the humps of the Bactrian hole).

first time beating my dad at his game was pretty sweet too!

My greatest moments are shooting 71 par 70 in the rain was hard going but kept the ball in play, one of those days that you think this game is easy.

The other that comes to mind is a 2nd shot into a par 5 was 220 out into the wind and a low 3 wood found the green for a gimmie eagle

If it was always so easy

10) Bernhard Langer playing from up a tree at Fulford
9) Olly's dance on the green at the Ryder Cup
8) Faldo v Norman in the final round of the Masters
7) Watson chipping in at 17th in the US open
6) Jean van de Velde in the burn
5) Faldo winning his 1st Masters
4) Monty holing the winning Ryder Cup putt
3) Harringtons approach to 17 at the Open
2) Rocca holing through the valley of sin to get in play off
1) Wood "impossible" chip at Augusta

Alex - well done on the OOM - top man!

Couple of moments for me...breaking 80 for the first time at Weald of Kent. Stood on the tee needing a par 5 for a 79. It's a dogleg left, down hill, with the 3rd over water. Really pleased to show some bottle and nailed the driver, spot on lay up and a decent chip - it was never going to be short! The lag putt was nowhere near, so the 6 footer for the par and to break 80 were very satisfying. Made a bit sweeter cos it was on the day of my wife's 30th birthday! I told her it was worth missing her big day to shoot my best score...I think she agreed ;o)

The next one is the Ryder Cup at the K Club. Had a fantastic time in Ireland and met some great people. Went to the course on the Friday and it was awesome. Just wished we had tickets for the weekend. Can't wait for Celtic Manor and really hoping for a full ticket this time!

Sam Torrance on the 18th at the Belfry after winning the Ryder Cup.
My first tee shot as a member of a club - 250 yards straight down the middle.
Winning Captains Day for the first time.
Playing Swinley Forest.
Woosie winning the Masters and "that" fist. Better than Tiger's...
Sandy Lyle driving nearly 400 yards on the 1st at the Oxfordshire - with a 1 iron!!
Shooting 69 on a par 71 course. 4 birdies, 2 bogeys.

Only two memories stick out for me, probably because I've only played for about 14 months! :D

Breaking 80 within 12 months of buying my first ever clubs was quite satisfying, made me wish I had took up golf as a ten year old, liked to kid myself I might have made it pro!!
My first eagle. Par 5 13th, 505 yds. Driver, 4 iron to 6 feet. Put was straight as a die and straight up hill.
Deep satisfaction..... :D

For me my low score of 75, off the blocks, in horizontal rain, with three strangers as partners who must have thought I was a right bandit off 12.

And my 3 hole in ones. Balls date marked and put in the trophy cabinet.

And my 48 points stableford round North Oxford, off 18 handicap. Had a coach back home, so celebrated a bit too much. Opened front door when I got home, and slid down the wall uable to stand up again. Mrs Mog had finals the next day and didn't see the funny side, still doesn't, not even now, 20 years later.

When I played off 6, I once shot 3 birdies in a row and got two eagles in the same round and also hit the flag on a par three nearly getting that illusive hole in one.

Getting four two,s in one round and the club MCP congratulating me on it.
Being lady Captain for a year.
Returning to golf after illness and major stomach surgery.

The first time I had ever played match play about 15 years ago. I was drawn against the club captain in the summer knockout, and was very nervous. I was 5 down after 6 holes but managed to claw it back and won on the 19th.

The second round I was playing against the handicap secretary. I was 4 up after 8, and on the par 5 9th I put my second shot in the pond which was short and right of the green. He chipped his 3rd shot to within about 10 foot, I took a drop and then chipped in for a 4 from about 60 yards. His head dropped he missed the putt and it was all over by the 13th.

Not greatest moments (I hope i've still got those to come) but certainly memorable.

Winning the club scratch summer knockout. The further I got in the comp the more and more nervous i got , but somehow my golf didnt suffer (or my opponents did....hehee).

Well, despite two holes-in-one, I think one of the best things was when Mr B. and I won the club doubles first time we entered together. If I can get this picture to work, the trophy was presented in memory of a close friend of ours who died recently.

Otherwise, last week I had a truly memorable round which started with my best front 9 ever - I went out in 40 (personal best) with five actual pars. I have a 22 handicap and was equal on strokes with our playing partner who was off 10!
The rest of the round was equally memorable but sady not quite so good - if you want to know more, I may even submit a blog!

Alex,

"BTW, winning today's Office Order of Merit event has made a late entry into my own top 10."

Yes, a good chance to get into the bragging chair..

Just kidding. :p :p :p

Maybe not great but indelible memories all the same;

November 2006, Gemas, Negiri Sembilan, Malayasia

Hadn't held a golf club for 30+ years but with very little persuasion I joined the guys I was working with for 9-holes on a typical hot and humid afternoon. Borrowed my mates spare set.

1st tee shot, 140+ par 3, topped it 10 yds; 2nd shot, cleared the green, cleared the boundary fence - it's still there in the ulu.

Later, a wild one into the lake; this is what came out

On to our 7th, a Par 5 cutting the lake or go the long way round the corner. 5-wood (couldn't hit the driver), the long way; absolutely hammered it - my mate reckoned 250 yards though we never found it and you don't go rooting in drainage ditches for a lost ball.

That afternoon was a life changer - flew home, bought clubs and started lessons the following January.

I have many memories but will se out two personal and three professional memories:
Professional Golfing memories:
1--Watson & Nicklaus duel in the sun 1977 Open-I was 15 yrs old and watching two titans of the game go head to head for 2 days was thrilling.
2--Harringtons 3 majors--As an fellow irishman no more to say.
3--Ryder Cup K Club--mainly for the reception afforded Big DC and the outpouring of emotion when he won his singles on the 16th.

Personal golfing memories:
1--My year as Society Captain and hitting the second best score on my captains day.
2--My birdie on the 10th at Valderrama--only downside---
I did not see it go into the hole as I chipped in from 50 yds away down the slope.
