Set the scene....Intermittent rain, constant high winds with gusts. To give an idea of the wind strength, I normally hit a 3/4 wedge from an elevated tee with pond between tee and green and have hit the back of green occasionally, today however I took a 7 iron with full swing with the thought that if its long it hits the bank at the back and Im left with a chip and putt. Today that 7 (well struck)didnt reach the green and stopped 6feet short.
I started off with a bit of MS interference going off the back 9 first and my short game was still in the car.5 bogeys in a row followed by a scrap over the next 4, taking Tee shots with driver off the lawn to keep them real low into head winds (successfully I might add), taking clubs like 3 iron to get 100yds by judging the amount of umph to give it and judging the wind effect when putting over the greens that were causing the ball to turn that wouldnt normally happen.Managed to make 5 over after the back nine.
Continued on front 9 with a crap tee shot that hit a fairwayside tree leaving me a back wind shot to the green with a 5 iron....perfect shot hit the flag and ran to the back but made par, next hole par three, I overshot, had to lob over trees and it ran out of green, chip back to within 3 feet then missed putt...double bogey put me 7 over after 11. missed another short putt after 15 holes played some excellent recovery shots and came to 9th(my last hole after missing a birdie on the 8th that lipped out) 8 over par. Hit the perfect drive into strong head wind and hit a superb 6 iron onto the front of the green then did my first 3 putt for quite a while
This was a cracking round cos I had to compete against the course,the rain,the high winds and my MS and even though I started poorly and during the first 9 my short game was on vacation and on the next 9 my long game was up and down I still played to my current h/c.
NEVER GIVE UP EVEN IF YOU THINK THINGS ARENT GOING YOUR WAY!
