Just had a great hour at the range hitting balls right out the button.

Now, I forgot my glasses this morning so thought i'd just practise my short game but got bored of this so I then started hitting a few 7 irons. Knowing i'd lose sight of anything over 100yds I was only half swinging and not trying to knock the skin off it.... i was hitting a peach every time. I could pretty much see them land but knew i was hitting them lovely as I could hardly fel the contact.

Something tells me there is a lesson to be learned here.

If I played without my glasses I doubt I'd be able to see the ball to make contact with it let alone swing well. Went into Specsavers and cam out with a labrador and a white stick.

It is an old lesson well learned though that a measured 1/2 swing will invariably go further than on overswung full shot. How often have we all stood there on the course trying to really mash a club or shot and invariably fail to pull it off because we swing too hard/long.

Thats my problem homer, when i play golf my club head is pretty much pointing at the floor at top of back swing. when i shorten it and slow it down i strike the ball well.

Just a shame i cant do it all the time.

Hi Minty

it's a common problem, called something like a double pivot, basically means you overswing so far that at the top of the back swing the left hand side of your body has a concave shape as opposed to being vertical or slightly convex. From that position you stand no chance of controlling the downswing and additionally the swing loses it's power.

it has a pretty good explanation(better than mine anyway)and in fact IMO the whole tuition thing by leslie king is pretty good

Jeff,

Thats very helpfull and exactly how i imagined the top of my swing to look when i'm playing bad. It all stems from me overswinging and swinging to fast.

I'm working on it though and slowly but surely it'll work.
