As a lifelong West Ham fan I recorded the live match v Man U yesterday while I played golf. Managed to avoid hearing the result in the club house and after a decent game in which we took all the money I was in a good mood. When I settle down to watch the match Mrs MN says "I won't tell you the score but I think you're going to enjoy this". Oh goody. After 25 mins, against the run of play, the Hammers are 2 nil up. Oh my god we are going to thrash them and move comfortably out of the bottom 3. :)

Rooney gets one back, then another, then a third. Ok there must be a tremendous Hammers fight back. 4-3, yes that must be what she meant. Still time for the claret and blues to knock in 2 more... Hernandez scores. I am not a happy bunny. At the final whistle I asked Mrs MN why she thought I was going to enjoy that. "Well" she replied innocently "there were lots of goals". I explain what being a football supporter means. It means you want your team to win. It doesn't mean you will "enjoy" seeing your team concede 4 goals to lose from 2-0 up and slide back into the relegation zone..."The what zone?". Big sigh, rolls eyes, shakes head. :(

Looks like we may be replacing you in the Premiership MN. Another good 2-0 win against Pompey. The Pro at the club is a season ticket holder at Portsmouth, and when i came up the 18th he signaled the score to me. Think he may have got the fingers sign for our two goals the wrong way round !! :D :D :D ;)

Well if we have to go down I'd be happy for Reading to take our place as they are my local club. When I started getting interested in football Reading were 3rd/4th Div and West Ham had Moore, Hurst and Peters, the heroes of 66, so it was no contest for a young kid as to who to support and Bobby Moore was, and is, my (non-golf) sporting hero. My first live match was at Elm Park. A testimonial with West Ham as the opposition.

Went to my first game at Elm Park, 1969/70 season. Beat Barrow 6-2 in the old 3rd division. Most of the next 10 years were spent going up and down between the 3rd and 4th division. My hero was Robin Friday, what a player, and also gave Bobby Moore the run around when he played for Cardiff against Fulham. Moore completely lost his cool when after scoring twice Friday then proceeded to try and steal his crown jewels. ;)

My team, (Norwich) won 6-0 yesterday, I spoke to my Father in Law today who was at the match, and he said it wasn't a very good match, 6 goals with two more hitting the posts, taking us 4 points clear of the chasing group and it wasn't a good match? What does he want to see from a seat in the City Stand, Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The hanging gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically... (with thanks to John Cleese and Connie Booth)

Looks like my team Fulham may be close to doing enough to stay up but with games against Man U Liverpool and Arsenal (last day of the season) we need to get a couple of wins somewhere else to make sure. I hope Reading go up as they are my nearest team and there are plenty of Royals fans at the club and at work.

the blades will be edging that little bit closer to div 1
after tonite(play QPR),Warnock will be laughing all the way
to the premier, with a little "I told you so" to go with all
that spam..

I think I win here for supporting the worst team in the country!

I remember when you had a good team, and were promoted to the old 2nd division with us. Must have been in the 90's. You had a giant centre forward, and were the most direct team i had ever seen ! Think his name was Kevin Francis ?

Yep Big Kev, living legend! We had some great teams but Brian Kennedy and his rugby outfit Sale Sharks (spit) have destroyed what was a very proud and respected club.
