Hi all,
I spent Monday with Fundy at the range with his slow motion camera. I think we both really enjoyed it as you can not lie, the camera tells all. “I did not come over the top in that one Steve†“yes you did Al, have a lookâ€, it was very cool and once you have used it, it makes practice without it hard.
Steve gave me the most annoying drill in the world to help me with my casting. He placed a rubber range tee behind the ball and away a little (not very much at all). This is meant to help me attack the ball from the inside. It was unreal how many times I smashed that damn tee down the range.
Hit the range again today with the same drill, just hitting my 8 iron and a 100 or so balls. All I wanted to do was hit the ball half swing, checking now and then that the butt of the club was pointing at the target line when my left arm was parallel to the ground. I faded 3 balls and all of them were because I attacked more than a half swing. I guess I blocked about 7 or 8 out to the right and the other 90 odd balls had a beautiful 5-10 yard draw on them. Now to be fair I was only hitting the 8 iron 80-100 yards but it was a wonderful feeling and gives me great hope. I have to keep my powder dry as I know it’s a large step to do this with a full swing, I also know that the tow of my club did flick the rubber tee a few times.
I made myself a few promises when I lost my way earlier in the winter after trying to S&T and one of them was to enjoy the journey of improving my game, I am really enjoying this leg of the journey, it is fascinating to me to visually analyze, learn about and be able to feel my faults.
The rubber tee peg and I will do battle again tomorrow. I have the rest of my life to get this ingrained but how do I move from a half swing back to a full swing?
