Can GPS devices be affected by, for example, electricity cables?

Stood on a tee yesterday (par 4), glanced at my GPS and it reckoned I was only 160 from the green.. Looked again and the distance was steadily reducing, got down to about 80 yards before going up again, then down etc.

Realised the tee was right next to a railway line......

Once we got down the fairway it was fine again and looked good for the rest of the round.

Could the railway cables have affected it? Anyone seen this? My FC's GPS was unaffected....

Absolutely nothing to do with the question but:

A few years ago I had one of the earlier Snoopers which was a combined Golf GPS/car Sat Nav/speed camera detector. Playing the fourth hole at Bulwell Forest, which runs alongside the main road from Nottingham to Hucknall, I was addressing the ball for a short chip to the green when the Snooper announced "Specs camera, do not exceed 30 miles per hour". I didn't.
