Something I've been meaning to post for a few days and haven't got around to doing it.

After my lesson at the range on Wednesday evening, I hit the practice green.

I had my pro take a butchers at my stroke having made some changes about 4 months ago.

He was happy with the stroke I was making, but not so with the putter.

I explained that I was fitted for it just over a year ago. He asked me to setup to the putter how I used to, prior to my changes. I did so and he watched me hit a dozen or so putts.

He then had me set-up after the changes I'd effected and, again, watched me hit a few putts.

On the last putt he told me to "Freeze, don't move", which I did. He said "Look at your hands"

I looked down and my left hand was hanging over the top of the grip and my hands had moved slightly. I had noticed I'd been gripping right at the top of the grip, but never given it any though

He said the changes had had a positive effect on my stroke. I set-up to the ball much better and make a much smoother stroke than previously.

With my previous stroke I was stood quite hunched, with my arms hanging straight down. Now I stand a much taller with the tops of my arms tucked into my sides. My hand are now closer together for a more 'snug' grip as opposed to one hand below the other.

My pro went into their workshop and came out with a telescopic Ping fitting putter. He told me to address the ball with my current posture. He set the putter and had me hit a few putts. My new spec is:

Length: 34"
Lie: 71:
Grip: Midsize
Head: Blade

The blade head really surprised me as during my last fitting the fitter noticed a 'wobble' at this point and suggest a mid mallet (Hence my Del Mar). Thanks to Bob's V-Easy my wrists no longer cause a wobble at take away as the swing is now started my the shoulders rocking, he was impressed with that aspect.

He said as my take away was very steady, and I was hitting good putts with the fitting putter I would have no issues using a bladed putter now.

So, for the last few days I've been trawling the internet looking for a putter that fits with my pro's recommendations.

Suffice to say I've found one and look forward to taking delivery in the next few days :D

As an addition: He's also suggested a plumbers neck on the putter, which, again was a bit of a shock but he said it would help to keep my hands ahead of the ball at impact and offer a dab of forgiveness.

I thought you were a big fan of the Scotty? Which blade have you gone for then?

Love the Scotty. Really do.

Thing is for me to have the putter lengthened and add a midsize Scotty Cameron grip (Which I would want) will cost me in excess of £60.

Its cheaper to buy a putter to my spec than adjust the Scotty.

I really hope the new flatstick works for you but I am surprised as you mentioned before that you normally have about 30 putts per round. Happy putting G :)

That's never really changed to be honest T'.

Before I got fitted I was around 33-34 P.P.R, since then I've been steady at around 30-31. Just lately though (Since I made the changes) I've been up at 32 steady.

When I first got fitted for my Scotty, with my old posture, I dropped straight away and had a run at the start of last season that went something along the lines of 29,30, 29, 31 on the PPR stat.

Recently with, what my pro described as better posture and stroke, I'm going the other way (As above).

When the test putter was set up at 34", it was so much more comfortable as I didn't feel like I was reaching for the putt and holding he grip right at the end.

And so the new putter is......? By the way, I'd take 32 putts all day long.

A Bettinardi.

By the way, I'd take 32 putts all day long.

Which is all well and good, but when you've been bumping in 29 PPR and knowing it could be lower if not for silly mistakes, the thought of another 3 shots sounds good. My pro says my stroke is capable of sub 30 consistently.

Besides, I'm a stickler for having things right. Even though I can put OK with the Scotty, in the back of my mind, I know it's not right.

You don't want that in your head standing over a putt.

Fair do's. Putting is 50% confidence for me, trusting what is in your hands is a big thing. Never seen a Bettinardi in the flesh but read good things. Good luck with it mate.

I secured a Nome this evening...

Rather than start a new thread, I've decided to do the addition here.

Well, yesterday afternoon HID got a knock at the door from a delivery driver and my new(...ish) shiney had arrived.

Got in from work, opened the box just to check it had travelled ok and it was straight off to see my pro.

Tried a few different grips Winn AVS, Golf Pride Pistol, Lamkin 3gen and an Iomic . After a bit of time I settled on a blue Iomic number. My pro advised that as Iomic are aimed mainly at the Japanese market, the sizes come up a little small compared to UK standard sizes.

So a large Iomic grip with 4 wraps of tape was fitted and feels absolutely fantastic in the hands. The Winn AVS (Very similar to the grip on the PING Nome) felts a little too big in my hands and a little too soft.

He also set the face fractionally more open than it was so it was akin to how the Scotty Cameron Del Mar sits at address, which I prefer.

And, true to form. Here's some pictures:

I hit 50 balls while I waited for the solvent go off. About an hour later I got to have a few rolls on the indoor Huxley putting green. Not too many though, just in case the solvent hand't quite dried.

Absolutely amazed with how it felt and the roll it puts on on the ball.

My pro then put the cat among the pigeons by saying "Is it going in the bag for tomorrow?"

:mmm:

It played so well on the indoor green I decided to put it straight into the bag for today's Stableford. 28 putts and 35 points in conditions hardly conducive to good golf (High wind. Heavy rain and bone hard greens).

I'd also like to give some thanks again to Wilshaw Hacker for giving me the opportunity to own the Bettinardi. I'm very very happy with it.

If you're only taking 28 putts, which is excellent, where are all the shots going?

Today and, pretty much ,everyday, the driver is the culprit. It's the one club that I cannot hit consistently well.

I have a lesson in 2 weeks on this very thing so hopefully I can start getting a little more consistent.

I feel your pain. Long, but inconsistent. Gets me into trouble. I can't putt for toffee either though!
