Morning folks,

I got a call this morning to say my Caddy Lite had arrived at my Pro shop and I was bursting with anticipation until I looked out the window .....its LASHING it down. :( :( :(

The Caddy Lite is a cheaper version of Sky Caddy but just by playing with it, it is going to be by best friend over the next 6 months. It cost me £129 from my Pro (I actually introduced my Pro to this product last week and he has sold 10 already and buying from him gives you a point of contact should it go wrong) and you get 2 free course credits to download and you can have unlimited down loads for £30 per year or £7.50 per course. I am chuffed to bits with it and I am looking forward to Saturdays Opening Day medal.

Nothing better than getting a new golfing toy is there! especially one that's practical!

I've got a lesson tonight then two days solid practice on thursday and friday before saturdays medal..... really want to start lowering this handicap.

Madandra, why dont you get the waterproofs on and go for it?

out of interest what is it that you think the caddie lite wil bring to your game when playing round your home course? I'm not questioning the devices capabilities and I am sure it will help, but what is it you are looking for?

My home club has started renting out SkyCaddie handsets for £8 a round (The £300 one with all the bells and whistles). Thought I would give it a go as it was a cheap way to try before you buy.

Gotta say I was prettymuch already converted before I hired it but doing so moved such a device from the 'want' to 'really really want' list.

Why is it useful?

1)It can tell you how far you really hit your clubs

2)It can tell tell how far you have to go to the green

3)It will give you yardages from where you are to hazards if you want to know how far to back off if you're looking to lay up or clear it.

4) You can turn the course around and look the management side of planning your next shot in order to accurately 'zone' your shots.

I'm saving the pennies for an entry level one but it won't be the same as M's as it doesn't work with a Mac and the SC does.

Billy,

Not spoken to you in a while, hope everythings well.

How long does this add on to a round of golf mate? I like the idea of it but it would really annoy me if i'm waiting about for my playing partner to fiddle with this little machine every time he hits a shot.

hi all, great forum so decided to join, mad you will not be dissapointed with skycaddy, got mine last week and have already took the money twice in our monday, wednesday friday group, feel a handicap adjustment coming. as for slowing the game down by "fiddling with the little box" all you have to do is look at the screen and the figures are all there. imo a cracking peice of kit

sorry nige, i hope you didn't think i was dis-respecting this piece of kit with my description. I just thought it would be a bit more complicated than that!

If it is as simple as looking at my usual course guide then it sounds very interesting.

Can you upload any course on to it though? including the muni's???

You will have to post review when you have given it a proper workout. I may be tempted by one because my course has no easily visible yardage markers.

I have already been on singing the praise of the skycaddy and will do so again......does not slow the game down and indeed compared to a strokesaver speeds it up and is way more accurate,I played yesterday afternoon with one and they really are superb I found I was pin high or past the pin far more than I usually am when playing without it and really do think it sould be made a legal bit of kit in all forms of golf.In essance it is no different to a strokesaver just quicker to use and way more accurate, hit a drive 30 yards right yesterday and pulled the skycaddie out and heypresto 2 seconds later had my yardage....that would have taken me probably 2 mins to work out with a strokesaver.

how strange

I posted a reply Minty and it seems to have gone missing :D

anyway the bottom line is that I think it will probably speed things up in the long run.

I was lucky to have a go of one and wasn't dissapointed.

£300 is steep but the entry level model is a on my christmas list

Ok lads, you can download courses from your data base that you have on the host site and the Caddy Lite that I have hold 10 at a time but can be chopped and changed infinately as per the annual membership.

All you do is clip it to your bag/troosers and after findind the satelite you are ready to go. It tells me the distance of the hole, the yards to hazards and bunkers and when you get close it tells you yards to front middle and back of the green.

This helps because I have found myself hitting a 9 iron from the 150 marker only to see it fall short because it is 150 to the front and not centre. I only joined my home course before Xmas and as yet have not become familiar with land marks and POI's so this takes away all the pacing from markers and trees but the most important thing is if you pace it out then chuff it, you look like a knob but this is discreet and nobody knows your a knob with a gadget.

Have a look !

They are on sale at £129 and not the £139 on this site however I would advise you to get your Pro to become a stockist.

Caddy Lite.

Sorry m8, the R&A have approved these systems but your club has to place a local rule to use them in medals. The reason these are legal and the rangefinders are not is down to some rangefinders allowing for wind speed and direction whereas these are glorified strokesavers.

This looks like a good piece of kit and both the courses at my club are mapped. I like the fact that you can get accurate measurements from anywhere (e.g. if you are through the green or have duck-hooked onto a different fairway). A traditional Strokesaver-style guide may have an edge in giving you a feel for the hole overall but all I would want is to know how many yards it is to points X, Y and Z. It appears dead simple to use as well. Very, very tempted.

Both caddy lite and sky caddy look great bits of kit. Sadly neither have my course mapped yet so I'll have to wait until they do. Caddy lite says it is already on their list of course waiting to be done. Hopefully by the time I can use it prices will have dropped.

In the meantime whatever make and model you have enjoy them you lucky b******s
