Membership fees have gone up to £1250 this year from £1125 last year - and that's the straw that broke the camels back.

No membership for me this year, going to take some time out and just play a few 'friendlies' with fellow forumers that invite me for a game. How it's possible to put the prices up (over 10%?) when the course has been unplayable for approx 5 months is simply beyond me. In the Summer they let the rough grow so high the course is practically unplayable and the rest of the year it's a bog. The pro is the friendliest guy you could ever meet. Shame.

sorry to hear James, courses trying to plug the gap in their finances from being closed a lot over winter by simply passing the burden to the members are likely to be in for a rude shock in some cases as people vote with their feet

As always youre welcome if you ever come as far north as AVGC

Its alarming the amount of clubs that are going backwards that are putting their price up! There will be quite a few clubs losing members for sure.

Wonder if some brave club would reduce fees, I bet that would ultimately increase membership

More members at a lower price but more people spending money at the bar and in the pro shop

It would take some balls though I suppose

Yep, come on down and have a game with us guys, have not seen you in ages! We can get Rick along and have some fun!

I think they have shot themselves in the foot up-charging like that!

Ouch - that's a sharp increase ?!

As always if you are ever in the area just give us a shout and will find time for a game !

Take Fundy on over at the Vale !

When you say its a £125.00 it may sound a lot but its only really £2.40 a week a mere £0.34 per day which is less than the price of a bag of crisps.

I am sure there is a reason for the increase and that your club need the members to support them.

Its not a charity... it cant always be that the club need support, sometimes we need support and bolting on over 10% is not a request for support its a liberty. If Tesco added 10% onto your food bill you would walk.... no matter what it turned out to be a day, week, hour...

That's punchy, and not a very clever move for any club right now, I would think. Can't remember, were you still at the same place halfway between Felbridge and the M23 or had you moved on from there?

I left Copthorne and have been at Ifield for the past couple of years Jezz.

East Sussex National (2 championship courses) have put their membership DOWN from £1760 to £1500 so I heard today.

I do not think that the increase broken down into days is relevant. It is the fact that they are trying to make the members foot the losses that have been incurred during 2 back to back awful winters where the courses have been shut. It would be interesting to know just how much some clubs have in revenue due to the lack of nomadic golfers crossing their doorstep.

A line has to be drawn somewhere and once the member ship goes past what you believe it to be worth then it is time to leave.

Thought the back had been gone for some time - along with various other parts of the body!

My old club, now too far away, reduced prices a couple of years ago. Not sure whether that brave move was effective or not.

Seems Pay & Play is becoming the 'norm' - though maybe not a £1 a time!

Ours went up by £100 last year, which for a course that has been unplayable from decebemer to march will probably turn out to be a very bad move.

I agree with you to a point but it all depends on how much golf you play and for me a £2.40 increase per week in not enough to make me leave my club, worst case would be that it's one less pint a week and then I am saving money.

Is your club open every week though? A lot of them £2.40's would be for nowt in JO's case.

at Beadlow Manor? Be amazed they have any members left at all on that basis

It was a very cynical move by the management after bringing in lots of new members on various deals. One i think they will regret. The main thing they had going was being pretty cheap. 699 for 2 courses was OK, but 799 pushes it up in to competition with far better courses in the area.
