Played the monthly stableford on Sunday. Went round with mate who plays off 1. He scored 42 points.I scored 43 points off 17. Got cut from 16.9 to 15.1 so well happy. In the round I had 8 pars and a birdie. Was well pleased with the way I was playing. Roll on the summer

well done mate, not a stablford man but looks like you did a great job ;)
What was your round score?

Cracking score, they will be making you wear a sombrero next time :D

The guy I played with is 18/19 year old. He had a putt lip out on the 17th.He won Div 1 and me Div 2, and yes he did shoot a 66. In our clubs summer league this year I've managed to bag the club champion as my playing partner. Another lad of 18/19 and he plays off..............+1. So that could be interesting

DTM , do you play with this guy often ? and do you think that playing with a low handicapper aided your round in any way ?

I've always wondered if playing regularly with low handicap golfers would improve my game.

Junior, I've found from my limited experience it does help a lot. You pick up a lot of tips and learn plenty. Also mentally I find it good because your playing someone who hits fairways and generally plays the game efficiently and you try to match it which makes you keep better control of your own game and mentally you focus more.

Only my experience and I'm sure there's others who agree but sure others who don't like it.

This was the 1st time I had played with.all tho I have known him for ages.We both played our own games. It doesnt bother me what h/c my partner are I just try to play my game and respect the other guys game. It was good to watch him strike the ball so clean and straight

my tuppence worth on this -

My fourball in the medal on Saturday was made up of a +1,
a 5, a 6 handicapper and me off 18.

So long as your not intimidated playing with them, you will see they generally don't hit the ball miles past you, but around the green they waste fewer shots and get up and down more often. Just watching how the lower handicapers play should give you ideas.

I played in a medal a couple of months ago with a young lad of 18 who played off 4. He hit the ball absolutely miles. I have never played with anyone who hit the ball so far.
Completely cocked my game up because as try as I might I couldn't stop trying to match him off the tee.

Played in a pro-am round the London Club off the back tees with Roger Chapman. Top bloke and his control of the golf ball was superb. Claimed he was too short now to play with the young guns on Tour but he still hit it miles off the tee.

Learnt a lot from him during the round especially about reading greens, put it into practice on the back 9 and managed to match his gross score for the the last 6 holes.

I played terribly in the second day of our club championship when paired with a scratch player. He hit his first tee shot and i lost all ability to hit my ball.

had never played with anyone better than 10H/c prior to that and i fell apart.

A lesson learned - its definately better to play with better players, not to try and match them shot for shot but to look at how they plot their way round and the short game

Rory Macs tip in the mag was to always play with better players if you want to improve. played a couple of times with good players and shot an 89 and a 93, both my best ever rounds on the same course.
