I'm playing in a comp at the Forest Of Arden this weekend and I've never played the course.

We're on the main Arden Course

Any suggestions as to the way to play it (aside from the obvious hit fairways & greens and make putts)

Is it a course to be attacked or plotted around?

all thoughts appreciated

Playing the GM Centenery Final I went in with a definite plan. Off the whites any hole that was over 400 yards I got a shot on and so I refused to attack any of them and deliberately laid up to 70-100 yards on every one knowing a good wedge and a putt would make par and a net par was the most likely outcome. As I came second there must have been some merit.

The trouble is all pretty obvious, keep the ball dry and you should fare ok. Some pretty big greens on some holes so make sure your yardages are right otherwise you can leave some monster putts.

Thanks Guys

I tried to download the pdf course planner / scorecard on the marriott site but it keeps crashing my laptop

It says 7200 yards on the site, is that off championship tees...much less for whites?

I always shoot lower scores when I play defensively but I have little voices that get bored and want me to rip it...self control and sticking to a game plan has always been my achilles heel

I don't know the course at all but I would suggest you play to your strengths. Are you a good driver? If so, get the big dog out and let rip. Good long iron player? 3 wood off the tee for position and hit your irons into the greens.

Good luck
