Played in my first competition today off my new handicap reduction. It was my tracks Autumn Open today with a field of 94 competing. Had an excellent round by my standards coming in with a 92 net 70, CSS was 70 which earned me 24th position overall, so I'm really happy with that first time out, as it was a bit blowy today.

We were one of the last groups out and as we got to the clubhouse a 13 hcpper was in the lead with a net 61 which we thought was sure to take the cup. However the last group in had a 23 hcpper who came in and posted a 79 net 56 to win...a truly astonishing score. Never witnessed such a massive win margin before, it would seem i have a lot to do to get anywhere near any prizes in my division lol.

Bandit? Nope. They play off artificially high handicaps. This guy had a blinder and as he's handed in his card, he's going to get a savaging and will be playing off 18 next time out (unless there's a quirk of CSS I'm missing).

Or just someone having a really really good day.
What's the saying..?
Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, 3 times it's enemy action.
He'll get a substantial cur, if he comes in with another high points total or 2 then the accusations may fly..

That's some great shooting, I hope he was getting a lot of congratulations!

Definitely a bandit. I play off 23 and I have never scored as low as that. Ever. Ever, ever, ever.

Therefore, he's a bandit. Boo him.

I wouldn't have expected any high handicapper to post a score like that especially with the pressure of it looming around the 14th hole, but miracles do happen.

Well done that man! Maybe just has the round of his life, us 20+ hackers are capable on that rare occasion. My PB this year is 83, and I left shots out there. My worst? 105! So when it's good, it's very good, but when it's bad? Ouch.

I played in North London earlier in the Summer and we were paired up with two chaps from down under.
Both guys were playing off 28 and one of them played the round of his life and romped home in 90 (19 over). He said he had never played so well in his life and and was delighted to finish 9 under his h/c.

This was definitely not a bandit performance as his mate has played golf with him for years.

Great to see people score so well, always delighted for them when you know it is genuine.

Not banditry, just a high h/cap & rapidly improving player having a blinder. I used to play with a bloke who shot 50 s/ford points one day off 26 hc. He had only been playing a short while but every spare moment was on the range or putting green & he recognised his swing faults & had lessons to lose them.
