Had two qualifiers at the weekend. A poor poor medal on Saturday which I shaln't go into, and a Stableford yesterday.

Started the Stableford great and despite having a pretty unlucky double hit out of some trees was 15 points through 7.

After that I have had one of those days in which, despite playing great and feeling really comfortable, nothing seemed to go right for me. I had 4 putts stop on the edge/side of the cup and 2 further lip-outs including one on 18 which went a full 380* around the hole and more ... by this point my playing partners couldn't help but laugh.

Hit two shots which were unlucky to find bunkers which both ended up massively plugged. Had a chip from distance stop a couple of inches short etc etc.

Genuinely could have had 44/45 points without having done much different. Looking at it positively as I played some great golf and made my entrance money back with a 2. But can't help feeling I missed the chance for a massive cut and to pick up a bit of prize money.

Club Championships next week. 36 holes gross. No chance of winning with lads of +2 and several of scratch or 1 but hoping I can shoot a PB and scuttle down to 6 ish before the year's out.

Jim, don't go into the club champs with that attitude, I've seen you play remember, you have a level par or less round within you so go into it looking to win.....

The first part of your post is just golf, next time the bounces will be in your favour and the putts will drop

Cheers fella :) Secretly hoping that I could shoot a couple of levels which might be there or there abouts but everything would have to come together on the day. Gonna give myself no excuses though - plenty of practice this week (mainly short game) and properly prep for Sunday!

Count yourself lucky Jimbob, I had one of those rounds IN the club championships. At least you got it out of the way and you know you're playing well so I'd forget about it and go into next week confident you are playing well.

Cheers man, looks like we're now dead level on our H4H challenge so going to be a close one!

I think anyone who thinks they may win the club championship should stare at the scores on the club winners board.
Look at what the average winning score was and adjust thinking accordingly.

Back tees, 36 holes and pressure generally gets to most and two moderate scores usually wins.

Good luck, you must be a threat as the handicap is coming down nicely.

So what points did you actually finish on?

Reads as though you reckon those 6 lip/edge putt should have all gone in, so down to 38 points (although I think its unreasonable to expect no hole-edge shots in a round)

Also how many did it take to get out of the two bunkers? i.e did they cost you shots or just 'potentially' add one shot to recover from each? I say potentially cos it doesn't sound like you were putting well anyway so who's to say you would get up & down :D
(again can you expect not to visit any sand in a regular round) and I don't think chipping to inches from distance cost you anything as getting it to inches was probably a good result and saved you a shot

Well played though (I think) ;)

Its just that it reads like you easily got 30+ points and kind of what most would play to for a typical solid round

I had 35 points total. So being realistic and having half of those go in would have been up to 38.

Actually putted really well and holed some solid 5-10 footers. Had 29 putts total but could have easily been 23-25 - as mentioned, 6 of those were from a couple of inches.

Was in 3 bunkers and am usually pretty solid from them.

11th hole, par 4, just short of green with drive in bunker plugged. No way of getting it out anywhere near the green and couldn't go short because of other bunkers. Ended up having to play for just over the green but ended up buried behind next tee - made 6

12th par 5, bunker to right of pin in 2, up and down for a birdie

13th par 4, bunker to right of pin again, disgustingly plugged (all of the ball lower than the sand). Managed to hack it out to just off the front and get up and down for a 5. Short sided myself with the approach as the wind just carried it 5 yards further right than expected. Was perfect yardage though and would have been stiff if it was 2 yards left.

The double hit out of some horrendous hay was unfortunate - shouldn't have been in it in the first place, although it was less than 2ft from being in the semi and fine. Ended up making 7.

Had a ball take a MASSIVE hop when laying a shot up which ended up water playing 'safe'. Was a good shot and 99/100 would have stopped 30 yards short of trouble. Made 6.

Fully aware that it's all part of golf but struck the ball so well and had even half of the stuff mentioned gone my way, would have broken 40 points with ease. Not had that much 'bad luck' for a long time. Like I say though, taking the positives. Made 4 birdies and 4 of the putts that danced in & out of the hole were for birdie also. Hopefully on the right track!
