Good honest review of M1/R15

His report is at little bit at odds with when he tried them both together at the original fitting over in America. To be fair, I'd expect them to be very close together if he'd been properly fitted for both.

This reminds me of what Crossfield use to do in the old days when he first started out and didn't appeared to pander to the manufacturers as much as now (in my opinion). This seemed a far more robust GM review and I hope its the first of many. I'd love to see the GM staff doing Product A v Product B as well

Neither driver seem to be making the most of that ball speed.

Don't think many will be moving from SLDR to M1 let alone R15 to M1. They are all low spin fun stuff. No doubt in my mind that M1 is more forgiving than SLDR, never hit R15.

Nice to see a golf mag not getting too caught up in all the hype and pointing out the latest version of a companies driver does much the same as the last one. Let's see more of this please, everyone appreciates honestly. :D

Interesting.

Given the cynical use of the internet by people to make money recommending absolutely anything now to make a few quid in commission, I am impressed.

Reviews (not talking golf stuff) have become almost entirely based on money and 95% of review websites are as close to fake as they can legally get away with. I've been researching it for over 2 years (paid, of course) and forums are the few places left where you can trust opinions.

So - fair play. :)

I cant name names but i know for a fact that a you tube golf pro was told to hit the m1 harder than the other drivers he was testing.

That review shouts to me that there is so little difference between the 2 heads that, unless there's something profoundly about a particular new model, it's far better value to get the previous one at 'clearance' price! And that almost certainly applies to all OEMs!

hovis for the sake of not embarrassing you, I will own up.

It it was me, and all it did was make me shout louder. FOUR RIGHT.

There is a slight problem with this thread in that though the gains from the R15 to M1 might be marginal my understanding is that in general you might want to consider changing your driver every 3 years. So should we really be talking about whether it's an improvement on the R11-S or other brands driver releases from 2012...?

Sort of true - and what I used to do some time back. These days, I believe all limits are now being approached and it's now 4-6 years before a 'new' Driver should be considered purely on performance. The real key though, imo, is to find a setup that actually works for the individual punter!

However, it's not the thread that has the 'problem', but the actual review! While I think it's great idea to demonstrate the marginal gain from one year to the next, I'm not sure it's actually good for TM! Bubba's comment about Turbulators - and other new tech - gaining 3mph ball speed was quite dramatic, but that only equates to about 5 yards - at a fairly high cost! Far more cost effective to learn to hit the ball out of the middle more often - which gains 20-25 yards with NO COST!
