I'm at a music festival in Pwllheli this weekend and we've decided to take the clubs and try and get a game somewhere near on the saturday morning. Any recommendations? Had a look at nefyn as first choice but it seems four of the holes along the point are closed.

Portmadog is a cracker, the links holes especially so....Pwhelli itself is ok and gives you a very warm welcome. If your willing to drive up to Anglessey, then Nefyn and Bull Bay are great tracks. Not sure how far Aberdovey is from Pwhelli, but imo, thats the best course ive played in Wales. (note , ive not played Harlech...aka Royal St Davids)

Royal St Davids all the way!

Up until playing Silloth earlier this year, I'd have put RSD as being (pound for pound) the best value golf I've ever played. Top track! As junior mentioned, Porthmadog is a corking track as well. Nefyn's a great experience if you go out on the point and is def one of those that you should play in your lifetime, but it's very Mickey Mouse.

Stick with Pwllheli as you won't have far to go to the festival. Half links and half parkland and is a decent track. Harlech and Aberdovey are both better courses but depends if you are pushed for time or not.

Had a week in North Wales in September. Porthmadog is a super course, and some of the views on the back nine are stunning. I loved Royal St Davids and Bull Bay as well.

I was completely underwhelmed by RSD, it's only got 3 good holes in the dunes at the end. It's tough but that's just down to the thick rough lining the fairways in summer. I really can't understand why it's ranked in the top 100. I think you've made the right choice going to Porthmadog

Have to say Porthmadog was the right decision. Front 9 is OK, not brilliant but certainly not bad. Back 9 though is just superb, particularly the 12 + 13th, and no I didn't end up on the beach! (mainly because I bottled it and took a 9 iron down to the fairway:mad:)

Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I agree , the front 9 is OK, but the course is all about the back 9. Some of the holes are up there with the best of Aberdovey and RSD.
