One of my issues with my current (may be soon to be ex) club was communication. Anyway, as a temp member at Belton Park I got a very informative email at 8.30 this morning. It told me what time the course was re-opening after the snow, what holes were open and what areas of the course needed caution as were still a bit icey. Not only that, there was meant to be an Am/Am comp on Saturday but theyhave postponed that as they did not feel it fair not to have the course open for the full membership having been shut for 2 weeks.

More and more it seems like I may have found my new home.

A lot of GC are missing a trick when it comes to electronic communication. Mines is a prime example, pretty poor website, not registered with Twitter or Facebook which are also great Marketing and Advertising tools. Anyway playing Belton Park in April during Easter break with my Dad so looking forward to that.

might mention to the owner of our golf club as its now the previous owners son that runs the show. he might listen to twitter/facebook idea. the website aint great and it only really has the comp results on it.

Well worth doing. It's not as though it costs the earth either on Twitter/Facebook as for having poor websites with hardly any info and pics on it no excuse whatsoever particually in todays climate.

Mine are just moving away from the use of a quill pen to the new technology. Yesterday I got an email telling me that the road bridge we have to cross to get to our place was shut for repair work and that we would have to do a detour and come in a different way. They did, however, forget to tell us whether the course is open or not!!

Sounds like that's from Steve, the club manager.
He's pretty switched on and not a bad player. About 12 h/cap ish.
Can you tell him I said hello when you see him next please.

We have had regular emails over the snowy period, keeping us updated. Not sure what happens if you are only on snail mail though. I guess you have to phone in.

I've begun to get an e-mail updating me on the staus of the course.
A step forward in the right direction. BUT.....

Now all they have to do is send it to me before my booked tee-time.
Then I won't have to phone them to find out if the course is open.

Sending the e-mail at 11am doesn't help me if my time is 9.30...

Ok, they're at least doing something but they need to think about it and I'll be telling them that (hopefully) in an hour when I get there.........

I also think clubs are missing a trick, the world is now built around being able to do things online. You don't need to go to a bank to get a credit card, you don't need to go to tesco to do your weekly shop, why haven't clubs taken this on board and made their websites more informative?

All you need is a members section with a fortnightly update and maybe a red amber green system on the front, course open, trolleys allowed.

Twitter is free, they can be used for informative updates and pro shop deals....

Madness!

Edit: I don't receive any form of informative email, you have to either ring up or check on the noticeboard, what happens if I'm no where near the club or it's a fair few miles out of the way to go and check the noticeboard.

Indeed. Known him for years as his Aunt runs the Reindeer in Long Bennington (best food ever) and I used to live in there when I lived in the Village.

Greg, stop stalling and just get on with the move!

Can't wait to go back there.

Any word if we're on temps?

I am not stalling, I signed up for a month to ensure I could get plenty of games at weekends. The course then decided to be shut since then so not been up there. Looking to play Saturday and Sunday this week to get a feel for the place. If I can find the games I will be signing up.

Bon, I will mention you when I am up there on Saturday to play against Aztecs
