I got my first handicap when i was 23 it was a 15 handicap, i am now double that age and my handicap is 9 with a feeling that i have hit the wall as far as getting any lower....my assumption is that everyone has a natural level dependent on hand eye co-ordination and skill levels etc...i have always played different sports and done ok at them however my point is that there are high handicappers out there who no matter how much they play will always be high handicappers and are kidding themselves on about there realistic goals.

There are also high handicappers out there who, with some quality coaching could be single figures easily, that will walk away from the game and never know what they could achieve.

This door swings both ways you know.

With drive, detrmination and correct application anything is possible. Everybody starts as a high handicap player, however how you develop depends on your application, dedication and the time you put into perfecting your game.

Being realistic in your ability and ambitions does help, however you don't have to be a single figure handicap player to enjoy the game.

I agree with the sentiments of the others. You obviously have an aptitude for the game and with the right coaching and some dedication what is stopping you except your own self doubt. I am not a natural golfer and never have been and everything I achieved including getting down to single numbers was a result of having to work and work at it. Maybe that's why I have no problem putting the hours in on the range. I've swapped teachers recently and the new guy has really invigorated my passion for the game and I'm determined that this is the year I make steps towards 9 handicap and single figures. There's nothing to stop you going lower

Golf is a game of skill !! The more you put into it the more you get out. In my view it has been slightly devalued by the changes by CONGU that gave newcomer's to the game 28 shots, presumably to enable a swift route to the winners podium.
I have played at the game for over 40yrs now and am still in love with it. Work got in the way at times but I did just achieve a single figure H/Cap, now at 75yrs old I am playing off 15, and still play to it fairly regularly, I don't win much, but if I play rubbish enough times my point ones will eventually add up to two shots one a hole !!! by that time I will be unable to get round the course.
My point is WORK AT IT the rewards are worth it.
