I hate camping in tents with a passion (houses with plumbing, running water, toilets, showers and comfy beds were invented for a reason). And the bread knife wants to go and see some friends in Devon at the start of September for 3 nights. We normally stay in a cottage but they are a bit pricey. And the wife and daughter love camping, so she wants to camp in a smallish tent she had just invested in.

So to get me interested, she said I could play golf for one day whilst we were there. Our friends are about 50 minutes away from Saunton, and having just rang them up I can play both courses on one day for 100 notes.

It's a bit pricey for me, but I've heard both courses are very good. So should I put up with 3 nights of hell in a tent and pay 100 quid for a day of golf at Saunton? Is it worth it?

Na, tell her its not your thing, let her and your little one go and enjoy themselves, stay home and play golf without having to pay. Or use the golf money to hire the cottage.... don't play golf but have a bed...

Drop them at the campsite then go and stay with your friends, tee it up the next day, stay over again then pick the family up and head home imho

Which side of Saunton are you staying? If you are 50 mins away then north you will be close to Burnham & Berrow and south you might not be too far away from St Enodoc. Anyone of those 3 will provide a great game so you may have other options.

If you are slumming in a tent you could have a nice hot shower at the golf club ;)

Cheers for that. I'm kind of equidistant from B&B and Saunton, but B&B is kind of on my way back, so not that keen on driving there, then back to the tent than back that way again the next day on the way home. St Endoc a bit too far from where I am.

We went to Saunton for a day out on the beach when we were down there earlier this year. And it didn't click with me that there was a great course there till I drove past it. So I think it will be an easier sell to go to Saunton as wife and kid can go on the beach which was nice. Assuming it isn't raining. ;)

Here's the issue. Put on your big boy pants and get her told.
