I've been thinking I could get out so much more if I played a few rounds myself. I'm not too bothered about going alone as it would be great for some ME time.

Just wondered what the general thought was on this.

Do clubs like it? Is it standard practice? (I can't say I've seen much of it) any thing I should be doing or not?

Play solo if you wish, it's not going to bother anyone, if you've paid your green fees that's all that matters.

If you were to sit outside my pro shop from dawn till dusk, I expect you'd see a good few people going out on their own. Popular times are before 8.00am and after whatever time the last 3 and 4 balls go out to play 18. Probably about 6.00pm at the moment. Not just allowed, I'd say encouraged...it must be good to have grumpy members out there keeping an eye on the visitors.

At my place there are plenty of 1-balls. There are also a LOT of good players there too, i think we have 8 scratch players at the moment. I think a lot of good golfers like a round to themselves so they can get on with working on things without distraction.

I love a round on my own, and have at least one a week. Hopefully it's nothing to do with my personality, although i'm starting to wonder

i too enjoy a round on my own, probably once a week. i enjoy it for a few reasons. no one to wait on, no one to feel sorry for me when i start playing really bad, i like to have a bit of time alone, its peaceful. I do play with people and in comps, so i get in the social golf too. but just prefer to play at my pace. also, as i play at 0630 or 0700 on a sat, no one is about.

I'm thinking about going out on my todd. My playing partner splits his time between the UK and Germany so when he's not here I rarley play at my course, it's a waste of fees really.

I'm going to go off about 7am and it's normally very very quiet so think thats best, keep my swing consistant.

I get lots of downtime in my job so going off alone a couple of times a week sounds great. ME time!!

I often play alone. My club operates a roll up policy with no booking anyway so it isn't a problem and a lot of guys do it, especially after work. I've paid my fees and so I can go out as and when I like (comps permitting obviously). I find it quite therapeutic and also useful if I've been working on something at the range to have a few holes on my own and see how it goes. That way if it still goes horribly wrong you're not holding anyone up etc and the only cost is a few lost balls

Don't worry about it - I go out alone every now and then, usually to try on the course some of the practice on the range. I try to choose a quiet time so that I am neither likely to hold someone up or put unnecessary pressure on groups if I am playing more quickly than them.

Only thing is to pack a few extra balls as there will only be one pair of eyes following the wayward ones.

I actually prefer playing alone and take the opportunity as often as I can. I'd rather bimble around in my own compnay playing the shots i'd like to try (a couple off the tee or lobbing a ball down at a certain distance). Playing and replaying shots around the green and trying putts from different distances/slopes etc

Very peaceful and no having to keep a card to spoil the day.

I go solo regularly. Gives the opportunity to play and practise at the same time.
Often knock a couple of balls down the fairway (dependant on how busy the course is!)
I really enjoy a bit of me time on the course. Time to chill, clear your mind and play against the course.

I've played solo a few times and quite enjoyed it.

Also a couple of times I've been asked while on the tee box if id like to join atwo or three ball seeing as i'm alone. Its one ofthe things that make me love golf, meeting new people and the general friendliness

The best thing i find about solo rounds is that it's pure relaxation after a hard day. You can just whack the ball away, not worrying about playing partners and forget everything for a while. It has the same effect on me now that fishing used to.

It's a great way to unwind and sort out your thoughts

Totally agree. One "odd" thing I do is to chuck a yellow ball or two in my bag (I wouldn't normally do yellow) and deliberately play a different tactic on a given hole with the yellow ball after the regular one. It was doing this that I realised I could play our 16th hole 4 iron/7 iron.

Yup play solo too and love it, great time to amble along play some different shots, try putting from different areas on the green seeking out the borrows.

Love golfing with my normal 4ball, or anyone else - and if it's by myself then I still love it. Can do 18 is about 2.5 hours (if I am not held up) 'tis great in the evenings - I hope to play this evening from 7ish - dark at 9.20ish so I should get a good 14/16 in if I have a good clear run and generally do if you miss the 6 o'clock rush.
