Why is it that all golfers i talk to tell me that if you play at their club you can knock 2 shots off your handicap if you play anywhere else?

Bragging that their course is harder than others ?? mayb trying to make you believe im 11 at home but thats the equivelent of 9 on other easier course? .. easy solution for them , tell them to play more open comps & theyl have a 2 shot advantage starting & see what they say ..

Just have a look at the SSS against par on their course, and that should tell you how difficult it is.

If SSS is higher that par it's a tough course, if it's below then it's an easy course.

It has to depend where you play. Courses vary and therefore a player at an easier course is almost bound to have a lower handicap than those from a harder course. In America there is a "slope rating" which equalises out the handicap according to the toughness of the course so if you play a match at a different course then your handicap is likely to be different.

I suppose in our county (Kent) then the best example is Littlestone - I would reckon a 12 handicapper on the Warren course might struggle to play to 18 on the main course

Most golfers find it more difficult playing away from home.

Just witness the scoring in the GM centenary events. The odd good round, but most are no where near h/cap.

If you only play to your h/cap 1 in 4 rounds (probably not far off reality), then this coinciding with an away round is a bit of a fluke.
