Apologies in advance if this is likely to be frowned upon but I'm looking for some feedback on an idea.

I'm toying with the idea of offering a mobile golf simulator to my local area - picture a big enough van to swing a club, projection screen and matting (well my house isn't big enough! :D).

My question to the golfers is:

Would you be interested in such a service?

Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Big enough van? (or lorry?), enough room to swing fully with no fear of hitting something (so 10ft+ height etc), aircon, come and park on my drive when I want a practise session, decent accurate simulator and at competitive prices, yeah count me in, but thats quite a high level of requirements and I think that will be your problem

I think you'd need a lorry. If you were thinking of coming round & parking in tbe club car park for a dayor two, then i might be interested. Or perhaps parking in Tesco car park so l could have a go while HID did the shopping, or similar. But whether enough others would be interested to make it viable? Hmm...

I think you were onto a loser immediately when you titled your post Golfers Advice, as there aren't many on here

Can't see it being workable from within a van or even a lorry, you could get some kind of awning to come off the side of a high top van so the screen was against the side of the van which would then be shaded and then you'd have an open height to work with and just put matting down, I think room is the key here if it's a home service option, can't see it being rolled out or welcomed at a club.

I guess it might depend on where you live. In my town there are 2 places within a short drive where I can go on a simulator. One is indoors at a driving range I use regularly and the other, a GC 2 with face technology at a pro's barn which is available to rent when he's not teaching at £20 per hour

I think your set up and running costs would make this to expensive.

Simulators work as stand alone [unmanned] in places like large hotels in well populated areas.
Belleisle golf course tried one a few years ago and I don't think it was very successful, it kept breaking down.

Can't see it working at any level I'm afraid. Too expensive to start with and certainly in my local area there are enough top quality ranges, some of which have GC2 or similar, some of which offer simulators that can be booked for practice, club gapping etc. Where would you park this as I can't see many clubs being keen to have a huge lorry in the car park. I admire the concept but it needs a whole lot more thought and work
