Does anyone know of any golf universities in the Uk or America? I am not good enough at the minute, or old enough but it is something i aspire to do. If so what handicap do i need to be at? google is useless!:temper:

Not certain these days but my son went thro college in the USA on a tennis scholarship around 15 years ago, he had some buddies on golf scholarships from memory they were all scratch or better. A friends daughter has been recruited to a USA college, I think she is around 0.2.

If the USA is your preferred route I guess you would need a full scholarship otherwise you are looking at many £k's per year, a division 1 college may well want a + handicap.

Try the EGU for more up to date info

Good luck

I would like to get a scholarship somewhere but if that didnt work out, i would like to become a coach or caddy-something to do with golf.

Myerscough do a performance based course which I think you need to be 4 HCP or lower to get on. This concentrates more on the playing side and focuses on coaching and swing analysis as well. You would only need to drop your HCP by another 1 to get on that. As said the USA route is great but places are like gold dust and elite players get the spots. Keep practising:)

There are a couple of lads from my home club at uni in the USA. One is an England elite squad member and on a full scholarship, the other is off scratch and is on a partial scholarship. I don' t think he has a huge amount to pay himself but it is at a lesser regarded uni golf wise. it would appear therefore the better you are the more chance you have of getting it funded. The academic side is also taken seriously, you are expected to study hard for your chosen degree and graduate at the end of it.

I know a couple of lads who went to Lee Westwood Academy, I have no idea what it entails but it did bring their games on leaps bounds.

My brother-in-law did sports management specialising in golf at Bournemouth University. He's now 26 and Operations Manager for a Company that assists Golf Clubs increase revenue (I'm sure it's more technical than that but it's the basics of it).

He regularly plays some top courses (Sunningdale, wentworth, The London Club, Celtic Manor, glen eagles, but to name a few). He loves his job and gets to play golf a lot and meet like minded people.

Very lucky imho. But just shows there are many routes to be involved in golf.

There are a couple of uni's over here who have pretty big golf squads. Maynooth and Ulster are two that I know for sure that have pretty huge budgets for their squads/teams.

Golf Management Studies at University of Birmingham. I know of two graduates of this course now in the game; one as a teaching pro' the other as a tour playing pro.

America is an option but to get a full scholarship at a good college (golfwise) you are likely to need to be Boys or Full international level. Otherwise it can prove pretty expensive.

Newport in South Wales has a golf Academy in the University, they play and practice at Celtic Manor so they have fantastic facilities. My mate is currently studying there, and although I haven't talked to him for a while, he seems to be enjoying and he had a photo on facebook of him playing against the St. Andrews team on the Old Course. Could be good for you to look into this.

St Andrews has the same, and no disrespect to Newport but .........
