Should golf union vouchers that you can win as prizes at amateur open comps, be allowed to be used to pay your annual golf fees. My club says they can't accept them as payment towards my fees as they would be breaking some rule .

BTW we do not have a pro or shop.

Does your club accept them, and what's your thoughts on this.????

It's worth asking around if other clubs accept them for green fees or in pro shops. I don't know if its true or not, but I've heard that American Golf accept them - as do some manufacturers of golf equipment and accessories.

Theres no problem using them in any shop that will accept them to buy anything .
It just seems strange that a club can issue a voucher but won't take it back to pay your annual fees or bar card. I seem to recall a club giving Marks and Spencer vouchers as prizes in their open comp.

GU Vouchers are simply a convenient way for clubs to provide 'cash' prizes without having to have and handle the cash - always a risk. It may be that the 'redemption' process is not something your club wants to add to the load on accounts folk, so won't do it. If there was a Pro shop, they'd be reasonably used to the process.

Just had word back from The Scottish Golf Union, Rules of Amateur Status, decision 3-2c/1.

Since changes to the Rules of Amateur Status vouchers may now be used against club subscriptions and bar account .
Sorted.
