Quick question for you. Heard this from my boss who has a friend who is a member of the R&A and took the test to join the rules committee and this question came up. No checking the rule book, just want to know what you think. I know the answer and will reply once we have some answers on here. So here goes........

You hit your tee shot and walk up but can't find your ball. You declare it lost and go back to the tee to play a 2nd ball. You play this and walk up to the green where the ball you just played is, you finish the hole but find your first ball in the cup.

What is the ruling? Answers on a postcard please.

Hole in one. Once you have holes out, that is it.

Well done that man. I got this wrong as has everyone else I have asked and also the guy trying to get on the comittee, and for getting this question wrong he failed the exam.

As you stated it is a hole in one and is deemed that the hole is complete, therefore anything that occured after the ball went in the cup is not counted.

Well done Murph, no prizes on this occasion.

Hole in one. Once the ball is in the hole, the hole is complete would be my guess.

Mind you, there is probably some daft rule that means you get penalised for practicing or teeing off on the next hole from the wrong place :D
