Planning a 5 day golf break based around New Forest.
Any recommendations for must play courses? And place to stay

Thanks

Bramshaw is good and you can stay there at the Bell Inn , 2 courses there , Barton On Sea is nearby , cliff top links type course , 27 holes , nearby you have Poultons Park , its not bad , 2 very different 9`s , Romsey is a short track but dont be fooled , its a nice round of golf , then you have Wellow , its ok but only if you cant get on elsewhere , You also have Hampworth , tough track and worth playing , a short drive down to Bournemouth and you have a few more with My home club Parkstone being the best by far , Go the other way towards Southampton you have Stoneham and many more .......................hope that helps ................EYG

Would normally recommend remedy oak but I know they are planning to re-build most greens so check before you book.

What sort of budget do you have in mind for typical green fee as RO at dearer end. Meon Valley ok track also.

Thanks for all suggestions so far.
Most helpful. Will have a look at their websites and locations

We had already identified Bell Inn as possible base, so good to have others suggesting the same.

Best course in my opinion in the general area is Broadstone, near Bournemouth. So good I have just bought a 4 ball there in our Captains charity auction. Can also recommend Parkstone and Ferndown, but not a great fan of Remedy Oak (too many trees !!)

Broadstone is not been in very good condition , The leather Jacket bugs have infested the fairways and eaten most of them , very poor when i played there in april , so best check and ask them if the 1st and the 18th are open , also about the condition of the course , it may have improved since april but i was really bad when i played it ..................EYG

Merick Park is best muni I have played in south coast (also in bournemouth) and I think a bargin + nice track to throw in as part of schedule.

Hardest opening hole in golf I know or have played , 245 yards Par 3 .............yes you can bail out , 8 iron to the bottom then same again up to the green , make 4 and move on , straight shot or draw , fade or slice off the tee is no good ..............good course , short but dont be fooled .....................EYG

Thanks for the update. Fortunately not playing until next year so hopefully things will have improved. Last time I played Parkstone it was in the best condition I have seen for 30 + years.

This is my neck of the woods, drop me a pm if you need any detailed information cheers.

Just back from a 3 day trip where we played Canford Magna, Parkstone and Ferndown. 3 very good tracks.

We also played Barton on Sea last year which was a challenge with a stiff breeze and squalls!!!

No mention of Isle of purbeck from locals? I Played it few years again and was impressed.

That's because it's miles away from the new forest

;)

Mashie is right, brok is the best course in the new forest by a country mile, but there is quite a bit of variation to keep you interested.

If you wanted to stay within the new forest you could go for a brokenhurst, new forest, Barton trio. All of them distinct from the other. Brokenhurst is a traditional woodland/parkland course with a heathland feel, Barton is a cliff top/Linksy hybrid and the new forest is a really welcoming quirky course. It's on common land so you share it with the ponies and it's how I imagine courses used to be.

If you go further a field you could do parkestone, broadstone and ferndown, all of which are brilliant and compare with any Surrey heathland course. You could also go the other way and play stoneham or even hayling which is within an hours drive.

I'd stay in lyndhust or lymington, both really nice new forest towns.

If you wanted to play brokenhurst and I'm around I'd happily sign you in:thup:

Hey pbrown- I thought the New Forest was somewhere else altogether!
Geography is not my strong point...

Played the Isle of Purbeck and loved it. And hated it two holes later....

Thanks for the offer therod- you might be less keen to sign a group of 8 of us in!

You've also got Burley, which is another common land course like New Forest, it s 9 hole course but played from 2 sets of tees. I haven't played it but driven past it a few times and it looks quite nice.
