Long time since I have posted, but asking for a bit of advice.

Lucky enough to be off to US later in year and am looking for a good travel bag.

Have seen the Ogio Mammoth, which could double up as a suitcase given its size, but its a bit on the pricey side (even off a reliable Ebay source). Although logic tells me I have invested alot of my hard earned in my sticks and what price the protection of about a grands worth of gear?

Anybody any recommendations :D

I picked up a John Letters travel bag for £40 and took it to Spain. Nice big bag with shoe pocket. Plently of space for clothes as well.

Beware of a bag that doubles as a suitcase as well as a club carrier. Some airlines have a maximum weight limit per item so you might be well over weight. I travelled to Florida last month and the airline was quite specific that clubs were to be seperate from other baggage and there were specific weight limits for both.

I was warned by my pro not to advertise the fact I had decent clubs... I wanted the Ping but ended up with a MASTERS.... 80 quid cheaper, roomy, padded and was at the other end when i got there. Leave temtation in view and temptation will get up and walk away!!!

I went for the hard plastic case and have used it many times now. It's a little extra weight (around 18Kg with full set in a carry bag + shoes, balls etc) but it is great quality, lockable and I've not regretted it.

I got a 2007 model Srixon flight bag this time last year, brand new for £30.

Ebay is the place to hunt!

Clive, which airline did you fly? BA used to fly your clubs for free, and you had to have them seperate, 14 clubs, 1 pr shoes, umbrella and 12 balls only. I have looked at their web site recently, and they now won't take the sticks for free, and they have to be part of your luggage allowance. As a result, I was going to pack all my stuff into the golf travel bag to save on luggage space, and as long as I come in under 23Kg, there shouldn't be a problem. If I am over 23 and under 32Kg, then it is a £30 each way charge. Was this not the case?

Thanks for the advice guys. My wallet and head agree with what you say, so I will trawl the net and see what springs up.

I am flying American incidently and they have some allowance for clubs but will need to check what that is.
