Only been playing 2 months so have been hitting a lot recently, either at the range or on the course.

Played my second 18 holes in two days yesterday, having played 27 holes in the 7 days prior. It got to the stage toward the latter part of my round yesterday that practise swinging was uncomfortable, not painful, it just felt like my right elbow was being pushed to the max.

Has anyone else suffered similar due to excessive play or is it simply a case of those joints, previously unused, getting acclimatised?

I suffered from Golfer's Elbow a few years ago (brought on by working on my car rather than golf strangely).
It's painful and it's annoying as it's tendon issues rather than muscles or the joint. You just need to keep it stretched.
Best exercise is to extend your arm and rotate your wrist to as near 180 degrees (clockwise for right, anti clockwise for left) and then press down on a solid surface. Stretch the elbow out while pushing down. Do that 10 times and rest, repeat three times.
Should ease it up a bit.

Sounds like a man of experience talking, I shall try this with immediate effect and add to it In_the_roughs rest suggestion, certainly until the weekend, anyway...

No quick fix mate. If you have proper Tennis elbow and you try to play again too soon it will come back with a vengeance trust me I did the same thing. Nice sunny day outside thinking my arm is not bad today so go and play a few holes and then the next day if not earlier it is twice as bad

I think this could be the case. as you say, you have only being playing two months. I imagine your swing has changed even since you have started. getting into new positions can feel strange to your body and may feel uncomfortable.

this should pass as you body becomes acclimatised to your swing.

I wouldn't say it's full on, the first 18 I played on Sunday I didn't feel a thing and likewise at the start of my round yesterday. I'm hoping that enthusiasm is the cause moreso than anything more major.

Am going to skip hitting anything this week and see how it's feeling on Sunday afternoon. If the niggle is still there I'll behave.

Digressing slightly and I can't half tell the difference from 6 weeks ago though. I was aching like buggery after just 18 holes. Thighs, calves, back, neck, you name it, it was bloody well aching but today it's nowt but my elbow. At least from a fitness perspective I can tell the difference anyway!

Gary, I hope we're right!

I was pretty sore after lymm last week. there is a lot more hills at lymm than lee park. my legs were aching the next day.

I would be surprised if you weren't back to full strength tomorrow. if not, then you should be fine by the weekend.

Golfers and tennis elbow are different things. Is the pain on the inside (golfers) or outside (tennis) of your elbow.

I have intermittent pain on the inside of my elbow, although it doesn't hurt to play golf. One of the worst things is picking up a kettle filled with water! The stretching exercise mentioned previously helps quite a bit.
I also have a couple of mates with the same pain and they pull heavy pallet trucks a lot at work.

Occasionally I've had a jarring pain on the outside of the joint when hitting off mats, a feeling like hyper extending the joint, but it didn't last long.

The pain/niggle is on the outside of the elbow and if I have my arm outstretched with my palm facing the sky, slightly to the left of centre (rh). I felt no pain or tweaks whatsoever when hitting any of my shots on the final 5 holes though.

Not golfers then. Not sure the stretching exercise mentioned here would be useful in that case, different problems even though the different pains are close together.

If you have tennis elbow you'll know it.
Try picking up a pint of beer, a full cup of coffee or a kilo bag of sugar. If that makes you wince and curse under your breath, you've got it. Even gently gripping a club will hurt like hell.
Rest is the only cure. I've had a couple of attacks of it, first one went fairly quickly, second one lasted best part of a year.
I tried various ways to try to get rid of it or play while suffering from it. From strapping my forearm up using an approved support, to expensive "electrical" gadgets, none of which worked.
My searches to try to find a remedy led me to try something along these lines....
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hylands-Rut...=1375244502&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=ruta+grav

I don't know if it was coincidence, but about a week or two after starting to pop these pills, my tennis elbow disappeared completely, and hasn't been seen since! Very cheap, do a search and you could most probably find them cheaper still.

Cheers Smiffy, no problems at all lifting anything, including my 10mth old. On the strength of what you and others are saying i'm hoping that its just a simple case of over-use. Still feel it this morning but not when i bend it, just when i straighten the arm.

Hi
I am a bit older than most on this thread most and have had two serious bouts of tendonitis ,one in each elbow .
The first was in 1972 and caused through too much squash, the game not the drink!
I had numerous cortisone injections to no avail,my Docter then referred to my local hospital ln Tottenham and I was offered an operation which entailed scraping nodules from the tendons as they attach to the bone. The op was a success.
In 1982 after moving to Cheshire and resuming my golfing career I got the same symptoms and again I Wa

I find that going to the range, even one session, will give me pain in my elbow. Playing a course 5 days a week - no problem. So rest and try and minimize the range sessions I suggest.

Do you think dewsweeper is alright, its almost been 2hrs...
Hi guys I am fine just had an attack of technophobia plus asenior moment
To continue, in 1982 I started playing golf again and soon had serious tennis elbow in my left elbow, moe crtisone and physio to no avail. Finally asked the doc about an operation as per my right elbow and he had never heard of an operation so referred me to a consultant whoalso was not aware of the prceedure. He contacted hospital ln London for details and asked me if I would let him try the op,a first for him.
I did and it was a success and I am still playing, just got down to16 after a long poor spell.
All advice on the site is relevant but if all else fails it may be worth a shot at the op ,it ws only a day in hospital and I think about month to playing again,

Best wishes
Dewsweeper
