Was in a golf shop yesterday and picked up a leaflet on Sky Pro , a golf swing analyser that clips to the shaft and gives loads of different data about the swing.
There appears to be a few different types on the market.
Wondering if any of you have used them and your thoughts on them ?

Plenty out there as well as lots of apps to analyse swing videos. The problem comes with analysing the information although off your low handicap you may have a better understanding (or maybe not!) than an beginner. I use to look at my swing a lot but it was paralysis by analysis and I was getting too bogged down in the how and not looking at how the ball behaved and went

The 3bays swing analyser has good reviews. I've considered it but at £175 I haven't yet had the heart to buy it.

I've got the 3bays and it's an awesome bit of kit, checked back to back on a track man and the was averagely 1mph different on the swing speed and carry distances were about spot on, great if your going through a swing rebuild as it's instant feed back ... No camera needed,

There is a 3bays iPad/iphone version for sale on here, I nabbed a bargain

I managed to get a 3bays of amazon for £120. Brilliant little toy! I've heard speeds are accurate, but the best thing fir me is that it clearly helped me increase swing speed HUGELY. Used to have quite a free loose driver swing having seen on YouTube about loose swings being quicker. Distances were competitive with my golf buddies so thought nothing of it. Having messaged my speed I was surprised to see my swing speed was topping at about 85mph. Scoured the web for other swing thoughts and have now raised it to average 102mph, with a 1.42 smash factor. Out on the course I was using a bit more of the fairway but was so much further along it was worth it. I'd say get one if you've got the cash burning a hole......

Interesting that your using the 3bays for swing speed increase, I'm using it for swing plane and swing path purposes, it will let me know if I was out to in, in to out, square, and all the club face info I need to get me through these troubled times,

The fact that's it gives instant data is awesome,

only had it a few days and that's the simplistic bit of info to understand. I have a inside swing path, apparently that leads to draw/hook which is my trend. I'm generally square or closed at impact which also indicates what I know already. Next for me will be my swing plane, but at the minute not looking to make any drastic changes.

My question would be, what do you do with the data? I can watch my swing on video, but what I see does not equate to what my coach sees. It just doesn't. I could get bogged down with data, and try to fix it, but I'd be wrong.

For instance, I over swing, and get crossed at the top. Is the answer to shorten my back swing? No. I over swing because my take away is wrong. Fix this, I can't over swing, problem solved. I couldn't do this on my own. It would be false.

If I get my takeaway right, the path sorts itself out. It just does. Take way with the shoulders, not the arms, and keep my left arm straight (ish?) and the club goes where it goes. If I saw it on a computer simulation, I could try to manipulate it to be correct, but it wouldn't be. It would be me trying too hard.

I try not to over think it really, I try to just get consistent data out. Don't get out as often as I'd like during winter. Can swing my clubs in back garden and check consistency of swing speed/tempo and club face path. Last round out I defo felt better, but it could just be like new club syndrome. Will give it time......

Pretty much like you murph it's knowing what your trying to fix, I had a lesson a few weeks back and we used the 3bays Sid by side, this way I know what I should see on the screen for it to feel right.

My fault was also takeaway, too Mach hand movement and fanning straight to the inside, this caused an ott action at the top, using the 3bays alone I would have spent months trying to get under plane on the down swing but the face is I was so under plane to start with its near on impossible, the actual fix is less hand movement on takeaway and then with a more neutral grip a steeper backswing, this allows me to then drop on the inside on the down showing.

The funny thing is to get this right I actually need the 3bays to look like I'm taking away slightly outside then steep.... But the pro is convinced its spot on.

Data is one thing, but understanding it and what your pro is trying to do is another,.... Get it right and it's a great bit of kit.

ive had a skypro for a few months after I picked up one in the states. i'm still trying to decide on the usefulness of the data it gives me. constantly tells me i'm a little over the top, and i'm not totally convinced by that so hoping that I can try it with my pro watching and we can compare it to the video.

it has so much info it takes a while to decide which parts you want to use. assuming that the data is accurate.

Would you care to share what lifted your SS from 85 to 102 ? If I could even raise mine 5 or 10 mph I would be a very happy bunny indeed.

My hips, they were always pretty static. Now I rotate them during swing with a slightly open posture which allows me to swing harder.

How does it calculate smash factor, surely it needs ball speed for that?

I've got Swingbyte 2 which can be very useful. I would argue it is aimed at teachers as much as punters as it does give you a lot of stats so you need to understand them and before you can think about changing. But I would say that if you use it in conjunction with a local pro then it can be very beneficial in seeing why things are happening.

For instance at one lesson my pro noted I was closing the face in my down swing. So everytime I practice now I can use swingbyte and it gives me a 3D model of my swing, so I can see if my club face is closed or not. You can also use video to see it as well so you can see your video swing and a 3D model of it at the same time.

And yes I fully appreciate that it is not a replacement for pro lessons or it will not suddenly transform your game. But it can be very useful in showing you what is happening in your swing. But be careful if you are an android user as it is better for ipads.

I have the 3Bays and like others have said, it is a excellent bit of kit. I intend to take it to a lesson and have it on the whole time, then when my teacher says that's the shot you need to recreate when practicing, it's just a simple case of making said swing the saved swing in the 3Bays and then all other swings get compared to it, so you then know if you're on the money, better or worse.

Very handy for building a new swing.

It gives you ball speed, I'm guessing it uses physics to calculate it, and predicts it. But having watched a few reviews online. It seems to give sale figures as trackman.

It can only give you ball speed by guessing a smash factor. It has absolutely no idea if you middled a shot or shanked it.
Still a good bit of kit though.

I've used the 3Bays and SkyPro, and rate the SkyPro as a better bit of kit. Only my opinion though. :)
