Considering buying one of these but would like a non biased opinion of plus and negative points of each one and which one is considered the best. Everything I see online seems like a pitch to sell. I am leaning towards Skycaddies sky pro but worried about something which clips to the club - unlike the 3bays(butt of club) or Zepp (Glove) but I've read the sky pro is more accurate due to where it is if a little more prone to breaking

The main ones I can find are:

Zepp
3Bays
Sky Pro
Swingbyte 2

Have commented on Swingbyte 2 on a few previous threads. Basic summary is that it provides a lot of information and you need to know how to interpret it and then what to do to your swing to improve based on that info. I'd argue it is as much aimed at pros than punters. The IOS version of the software is better than the Android version, but android version still pretty good.

Quality of the hardware is variable. People complain it slips on your club a but (it has to be specifically lined up with the bottom of your club every time) but to be honest I have not had problems with that. Plus it captures 99% of the shots and only ever missed the occasional one. But I have had several replacement straps sent through as they have snapped, and also I had to return the whole unit and get a replacement as the plastic bit that is used to secure the straps round the a club snapped off. All of these have happened when I was hitting normal shots off a mat.

May be I have been unlucky but I'd be a bit wary if you plan on using it a lot off mats. Looking on amazon the reviews seems to be similar, very good when it works but some questions about the quality of the hardware. But when it's working it is very good and from some quick comparison to some data from GC2 as accurate as you will need it to be. I can also recommend Playbetter in the US as that is where I got mine from and they have been brilliant with an replacement parts. Was also delivered from the US in 3 days I think.

I'd use a PGA pro, but that's just me ;)

Haha I do too but we all fall into bad habits now and again I would probably look to use it with him.

I've noticed with the Skypro there is a groove mode to set parameters which I think if using with the pro would be good as would mean I can look to stay within these to get a consistent swing

You can do this with the swingbyte mobile android app as well.

28 Handicapper - what are you trying to achieve from buying one of these? Spend it on lessons, practise balls and course time! You'll get much more value out f the money spent. Also, go have fun!

There is also "Focus" mode, where you choose 3 measurements to display in big numbers on the screen.
Using that I can leave my phone next to the range basket and see the numbers after each swing without having to get closer to see them.

Haha BUT THIS IS FUN... I am a bit of a tech geek! I do get lessons and our course has a decent practice facility so I think it could aid it.

Region3 did you get to try out any of the others that I mentioned before buying the skypro? Also do you find skypro slips or snaps at all- something that from investigating seems to happen quite a bit with the swingbyte 2?

I bought a Zepp a few months ago on a spur of the moment in the winter. It's gives you some interesting data and a 3D image of what the club is doing. For example the path traces will clearly show if you are coming over the top or too much on the inside etc. It records every swing (on your iPad) so you can see how your swing changes over time. However, I much prefer to work on the range so I haven't used it in ages. It could be quite useful for a 28-handicapper to practice at home though.

I used to have the 3Bays GSA but it's a while ago and I can't remember why I didn't like it :o

As for slipping on the SkyPro... I'm not sure. It doesn't look like it's slipping but as I hit more and more balls the path tends to get more from the inside according to it.
I don't think I agree with that, but I don't know if it's the unit slipping or my inconsistencies in lining up.

That imo is one of the biggest problems with these devices. They don't know if you're aiming square to start with and can only report club face and path relative to what you 'think' is square.

So have taken the plunge and managed to get a nearly new SkyCaddie SkyPro on the bay for £111 delivered... LOL might be a complete waste of Money but will see how I get on.
