Golf specific excercises.

Who does them, and what do you do.

I am starting to train again and looking at 'bulking up' seeing as when I stand side on to most people, I am almost invisible. :D

I am never stuck for any training methods, I picked up alot of good circuit training excercises and stuff when I was at Lympstone, but I was wondering what are the best golf excercises are.

Core strength I am refering too mostly.

Any twisting core exercises and for weights explosive exercises. Most important is stretching just watch how supple the pros are to explain why.

These are all ace core exercises for golf, I would do 3-4 sets of 15-20 reps of each.

If you want do weights either lift heavy and work in the 3-4 sets 1-4 reps range for power, only do this a few weeks of the year.
Or go light and work on muscle toning and endurance and work for 3-4 sets of 15-20 reps.

When do cardio always train doing intervals, as slow and steady dont do jack.

strength and mobility exercises:
lift out and assemble trolley and battery,
lift out and fit bag.
put on golf shoes

cardiovascular:
walk to first tee

- seems enough

I'm not sure I know what "core strength" is! But, what I do know is that fit and strong = good for golf.
The guys I know who hit it the farthest and best all have chunky frames (no skinny marathon runners!!) plenty of arm/wrist muscle/strength and a natural aptitude for bat/club sports.
You are a slim chap, and probably very strong in your arms and legs. The chaps I know are stocky/beefy - rowers, rugby boys. The pros prove that slim can be good though....chest and arm work I guess.

Do you have a powerplate at your gym? I have got some great golf exercises for these that I nicked off the golf fitness 'my tpi' program on setanta golf. I have recorded about 12 episodes now and keep referring to them. the other thing these experts are big on is stability as opposed to just core strength, for example find a 1/2 balance ball thing (don't no what they are called but they are like a half swiss ball mounted on a flat circle and you stand on the wobbly bit) and do lightish weight bicep curls (about 3/4 what you would normally use). Your ankles and core will have to stabalise your arms / body as they move aiding your balance whilst using the lighter weights gives you opportunity to do a large range of movement which is essential to maintain flexibility whilst building muscle mass.

That is key actually whatever you intend to do resistance wise make sure it is light enough to allow a full range of movement (it's pretty basic gym stuff though so sorry if I am being patronising but the amount of people who do like half actions is ridiculous) for example if bench pressing something your upper arms should move to parallel with the floor to fully locked straight, in an ideal world if you are going to improve your golf specific fitness. If you don't you could find yourself getting shorter as opposed to longer off the tee.

Just ask if you want some powerplate or more stability exercises, i haven't really got time to get them all down at the moment. If you can watch the 'my tpi' program though it is well worth it and has guests on such as camillio villegas- who is ripped!
