Probably, no surely, has been suggested before but wondering if any of you guys local (sussex, kent, essex, surrey, london) although not exclusive, would be interested in forming an organised society?

Say perhaps 6 events through the season with an order of merit perhaps?

I would be more than happy to do the leg work if anyone is interested as I have done such a thing before anyhow.

Anyone interested post your name up and we can go from there.

Cheers all, Jon

Me too, sounds like a great idea. Depending on how soon it takes to get organised I may have to miss the first event thanks to my duff ankle.

Well up for it though :) :) :)

With regards to events I feel that they should be spread around to make it fair in terms of travelling.

Also would people prefer a weekday such as a friday to get better rates or stick to weekends.

Great idea about an event at your gaff btw Hywel.

Would be great if we could get say 12 or so regulars as we can get some good deals on some good courses.

I know Smiffy cant do Saturdays. I reckon Sundays are probably best. However if each person holds an event at their club, they could each organise two dates over one week so all could attend? Hope that makes sense?

Great idea MWJ. I'd certainly be up for it.

Re order of merit, as it is unlikely that all will be able to attend all venues, maybe take the best 3 cards over the season??

I'd love to host a venue at Sundridge Park but I think that the cost would be prohibitive. I can sign 3 guests in on weekdays for £20 each for 1 round (or, I think, £30 for the day - 1 round on each course). Any more players, and you are looking at £50+.

At weekends, it is £40 each for 3 signed in guests in the afternoon for the 1 round. "Unaccompanied" visitors at weekends are not catered for.

I've already mentioned to a few forumers that I am quite happy to guest some 4 ball's a bit later in the year but I feel that holding a society do there would not be on.

I'd love to take part Jon, but as Hywel kindly points out...Saturdays are out for me I'm afraid.
I can normally play any Sunday but am fully aware green fees are likely to be a bit more expensive at week-end so fully understand if people would prefer to play on a week day.
The only day it is impossible for me to get off are Mondays as my boss always goes to auctions and Wednesdays can be a little tricky too. But other than that I'd make the effort to get to a meet whenever I could.
I organised quite a large society for a number of years in the Sussex/Surrey/Kent area and know a number of courses that are not only good tracks but would offer a reasonable green fee.
Copthorne in Sussex (near Gatwick) Chartham Park (again near Gatwick) Westerham (near M25) and Lamberhurst (A21) are four good courses that spring to mind straight away that not only offer a good test of golf, but are also willing to "do deals" and are fairly convenient with good motorway access for the majority of players in the area.

Having been fortuneate enough recently to join Smithy on one of his "society days" at The Addington I strongly suggest you liase with him. He has a great circle of friends and forum members and really hunts out the deals to be had in the SE area. I look forward to being invited to the next one.

FYI, I will of course offer my club up as a possible venue and would happily organise and host a day - Crowborough Beacon - but it may be a tad expensive. It is a great course but compared with the deals Smithy gets, it is expensive.

So, as I said, contact Smithy and take his advice. He organises quite a few events in the SE already and does an outstanding job.

I'd be in for that Medway.

My local course is Aldenham just off J5 of M1. But there are loads of good courses in the vacinity.

Perhaps we could suugest saving some serious pennies up and getting hooked up at The Grove - great venue. But definitely a once a year special occasion place to play.

Re: Golf Society question

I'm an expat based in the wonderful city of Prague and looking to set up a golf society - for expats and locals alike - over here

Any suggestions and useful advise/tips would be most appreciated, or perhaps there is a website designed to help with the setting up of a golf society?

Cheers

Andy
