Recently came across this and thinking might be a good substitute for current range finders etc which I find a bit too variable ( mainly due to shaking hands after a night on the sauce ) and the tie in subs with sky caddie etc. Currently 20 quid or so for an updated version. Any users out there and whats your thoughts? I understand you cant use it competetions....

Hi Mike,

This has been discussed here a few times so you can use the search function to have a look. I have this app and it is great. It is, as you say, not allowed to be used in competitions due to the compass and weather finding apps on the iPhone4. I personally have contacted R&A to get the official line as my club were unsure. They don't look like approving it in the near future either. You can read into that what you will, either stuck in the past or some conspiracy involving all the golf GPS providers to keep their prices up ;)

I personally use it on any practice rounds and make notes on the stroke savers.

Hope that helps :)

i know it has been discussed but i have found it invaluable to assist with understanding distances and at the price it cant be beaten!

It's also very good for keeping scores and gives you an analysis after the round - Fairways hit, GIRs, putts, penalty shots, sand shots. If you buy the paul Azinger golf app too (69p) the two apps sync and you can get a personalised training plan and further analysis.

I have to say the general feedback is superb and a shame about comps as surely they would put range finders and the expensive GPS systems to shame. I have the Free caddie pro at the moment and its been great for yardage etc but this does look excellent for stats and additional info. Might have to have a little purchase.

A couple of my friends have this, and I'm pretty sure they are allowed to use it at their course.
I had a look and was jealous as I don't have an iPhone, its a brilliant app.
The app itself doesn't give you any information with regards wind, so I don't get why the likes of sky caddie would be legal and this one not, as they do the same thing at a fraction of the cost.

I've been using it for the last few rounds and it's really helped with my yardages even round my home course ad it only has 150 markers and my guess work is a mile out as I've now found out!

The statistics bit is a big help aswell as it shows areas where I need to improve. Just a shame you can't use it in comps

I can't fault ti, I use it all the time except comps but as I now know my clubs markers are spot on and the course quite well I can get by during comps without it (I cant get a standalone gps for my home course anyway as it isnt mapped by anyone)

I find the stats/score tracker the best as it lets me see my averages or compare scorecards over a period of time.

If your course is mapped then it is excellent. If the course isn't mapped then still use the free version post round as it is great for analysis.
