I get that the GM article is about the best of 2017 etc etc but does anyone else think the prices of golf shoes are just going through the roof?

Am I just imagining it that 5 years ago £100 was a lot for a pair of golf shoes and would get you top end stuff & now it seems to be mid range at best
Some of those in the article are just scary at over £200 a pair

Although I think golf bags are going the same way with their pricing so either I'm just a skinflint or we're seen as a market that can be charged top wack

And most of them look like trainers!

We're not all young fashionistas, where does one go to find a traditional looking pair of golf shoes with a proper heel in a nice shade of brown???

I think most golf equipment has been creeping up for a while now. Drivers are all around £400+ now and it's not long ago that premium irons were typically £599 a set but now up to £699-799 for the big brands.

Even balls have shot up, not long ago it was £35 for a dozen Pro V's but seem to be £45 now.

As all golf gear is imported the bad exchange rate with the dollar is undoubtedly having an impact. Mfrs may also be using that to fire in some other increases at the same time that they have been absorbing over the last year or two. Certain items do seem to have leaped considerably.

Golf shoes are so overpriced and we as consumers are getting ripped off big time for them.

Take other sports and shoes in general would you go and pay £150-200 notes on black work shoes or trainers for daily use,of course some will and have done bu probably would realise you can get either for cheaper and still have a very good pair.

Football boots are way cheaper a very good brand and make endorsed by Ronaldo would be less than a ton and a top pair of running shoes would be around a ton also.

Spikeless shoes are just an average pair of trainers with a massive inflated price tag imo.

The last time I bought Vokey wedges they were priced at about £85 now they appear to be £120 'ish. There seems no real justification for many of the prices being charged and I prefer to wait for sales and end of season deal. I bought 2 Vokey wedges (one a SM6 and an SM5) for £100 the other day at my local range.

Stupidly high prices is one thing, but the other scandalous thing about golf shoes is that they just aren't waterproof the way they used to be. Even my Footjoy winter boots leak like a sieve!

I'd agree that most things golf related seem to be shooting up in price. But the only thing I have paid full whack for are the custom fit irons but even with those I managed to arrange some discount.
Things like golf shoes are just getting to silly prices, as are drivers, hybrids and fairways.
And with the shoes, a lot of these mega expensive ones are all synthetic so you are paying £150+ for plastic trainers, not even a trace of leather.
For my shoes, I look for sales, last years models, etc and get them at a much reduced price.
But do bear in mind that I come from a time where golf shoes where not as well designed, leaked, would ruin the back of your heel and not be as supportive as modern shoes. You wear your shoes for 4 hours a round, for however many rounds of golf a week you play so you have to base cost on that basis. If you have a bad pair of shoes, you know about it. If you have a good pair of shoes, you never really think about them during your round.

Not the top end ones, they are stupid expensive now as well

I know - I have a pair and they do work.
But I don't think that excuses the fact that golf shoes leak, even when you pay a lot for them.

The first pair of golf shoes I ever had about 15 years ago (Footjoys) were absolutely waterproof.
So they have clearly changed the design for the worse. It wasn't broken, so they fixed it (and broke it). Outrageous!

Are yours quite thick? I have a pair and they are almost like football socks. Fine in winter but on a warm and wet day it could get a bit uncomfortable.

They do work brilliantly however. (another vote for the "why are shoes no longer waterproof" question)

Yeah definitely. I've had the same pair of shoes for donkeys years (adidas ones) but they're on their last legs really so I've been keeping an eye on new pairs - seems that even the most basic shoe starts at 70 quid these days! Robbery. I'll have to wait until there's a sake on I reckon. I'd have thought 40 should get me a decent pair but I'm yet to see it..

Yes I would say they are fairly thick. In summer I don't mind getting wet feet so much as they don't get cold, just change into dry socks when I finish. I'm a firm believer there is no such thing as waterproof shoes, water always seem to get in somewhere.

Problem is people do pay those prices! Get drawn in by the offer of state of the art PowerSole technology with guaranteed distance boost anti slice laces, all of a sudden they are the new must haves for out on the course.
