Hey Guys,

I'm looking to get some shoes for golf and thought you lot might be able to point me in the right direction when it comes to what I should be looking for or more importantly what I should avoid.

I live in the north east of England not to far from the coast so it's normally wet up here so something good on wet turf and in the rain is a must.

Budget isn't so much of an issue but I would rather keep things to a realistic bracket near the £40-£60 area.

Also I noticed that a lot of clubhouses and driving ranges have signs saying "no spikes" or something to that effect, does that mean no golf shoes aloud or are some suited to be worn inside also?? Or are these notices to do with carts and nothing to do with shoes at all lol??

Thanks in advance,
Doctor P.

No spikes is usually no metal spikes, just the soft spikes.

Just look on the golf websites and see what you fancy in your budget.

Dr, check out www.golfshoesdirect.co.uk , their based in east bourne but do free delivery and i fond them to be 20-25% cheaper than anyone else online including bigger chains known for clearence items.

My Footjoy Sports where £75.00 when they had only been out a month RRP was £100. ;)

Footjoy are the most comfy in my opinion, and AQL's represent fantastic value.

No spikes in clubhouses and range shops would suggest no spiked shoes of any description indoors. No spikes on the course would suggest soft spikes only (i.e. no metal).

That sign will just mean you aren't allowed spikes (of any kind) inside. It messes up the carpets!

Big vote here for Footjoy. Great shoes and excellent customer service too.

In that price range? Footjoy AQL's all the way. Can't be beat for comfort, quality and "fitability".
I have four pairs now, and love them. I've got 3 mainly white pairs with a bit of colour in them and a black pair that I tend to use more for the winter because you can stick them under the tap and it doesn't matter how muddy they get they look like new again with a wipe and a bit of polish.
I swapped out the soft spikes fitted to the black ones and replaced with Stinger Pro metal spikes as I prefer the stability these give me when it's really wet and possibly muddy. Not expensive.
If I am planning on playing in the black ones but am unsure of the courses spikes policy, I will always take one of my other pairs with me as back up. But the spikes are fairly easily removed (if you have the right tool) so it's not too much of an inconvenience to have to change them if necessary. Shouldn't take you longer than about 10 minutes in total.
If you do buy a pair, it's worth removing the spikes before you wear them for the first time and smearing the threads with a little vaseline as it will ease their removal at a later date.

Thanks for all the replies guys, the FJ AQL's seem to have a good reputation on here and in reviews so I think they will be the best buy for me.

Kellfire, I live in a small Town/Village near Wynyard in Co.Durham :)
