Golf shaft length

Really? There is usually a lot of stuff on the net telling you you need to add more then 1/2".

I presume this was a static fitting system - finger to floor measurement or something. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Club brands vary in length by about a half inch anyway, as there is no industry standard, and a fitting pro will be more interested in how the current length affects your swing than the static measurements. If you get a lot of toe hits, sometimes they will add 1/2" or so. If you do need an extra 1/2", any decent pro can do that by putting an extension into your shafts. This is usually a piece of old shaft and should be cheap and quick, but you may need the clubs regripped.

I have a driver with a standard shaft which is around 1" longer than most standard driver shafts but don't find it a problem despite struggling to make 5' 8" myself. The pro who gave me lessons doesn't think it's a problem.

Well worth asking your pro to have a look. He will just probably put strike tape on the club and get you to hit some shots and see what is actually happening. 1/2" will make a difference. I have 1" on my clubs. If I hit anything standard length I struggle to get a good strike on the ball.

Like Ethan said it may cost a few quid, maybe even more if you have to have new grips as the old ones will not come off.

I have never quite got my head round this.

My irons are 1/2" longer. Fine. But, I can hit my 5i, and I can hit my 6i, which is 1/2" shorter than the 5i.

Why if I put my 5i head on my 6i shaft would I suddenly hit every thing out of the toe?

I assume the argument is that the lie angles change as you move through the set so there is an optimal length for each lie angle for each person

But often the difference in lie angle between a 5i and a 6i is 1/2 a degree. Not much there really.

1 degree different in mine, and thats enough for clubs to be altered on a custom fit. Not saying I agree with it but I expect its the correlation between length and lie angle rather than purely length of shaft that is relevant

I am not going to claim I understand exactly why it does it, but it does. I have got my clubs 1" longer and 1* upright. Anything flatter or shorter and I just can't the same strike as I can with my setup. Yes I can still hit them but I end up with a bit of a slappy shot that goes up rather than forward.
