Golf Sayings... hit the provisional first

Last week, playing in the monthly stablefords... I sliced mine OOB orbit. Re-teed and hit the puppy as straight as a bullet. My playing partner quipped.. 'As they say, always hit the provisional ball first'. While I dont know why it works, a provisional always seems to shape much better than the first one.


Any other golfing urban myths to share? A ball has only 1 birdie in it perhaps?

I shot level par yesterday with a par 4 start, so that's that one blown!!!

Agree with that.. never had a good round with a par start (or otherwise )

Yep -those provisional balls always work better - need to buy myself a box or two....

Not so much a myth or saying, but when teeing off in front of a crowd a duffed shot can be repeated exactly down to the ball skid mark on the tee box where you topped it. Yet if you were to launch one down the middle and then tee up another chances are you couldn't repeat the same shot.

Bloomin annoying isn't it, my duff tee shots are costing me, yet shot 2 is always great

This has happened a few times while playing with friends. Not so much a saying...

Asked to play up to a par 3. Join the group in front on the green and every time someone has had a 6 footer for birdie, they miss.

Played a crap shot out of bounds yesterday and then a perfect second shot straight down the middle and I'm thinking to myself I hope my mate doesn't say " why didn't you do that the first time" but sure enough he had to say it.

the provisional is the easiest shot in the book - pity it's often your third. And one I like is that you can never get a shot back - once you've dropped it - you've dropped it.

Chap at my local course did the same last saturday on the 6th par 3, his first O/B then his next shot in for a par.:clap:

If there's a groundsman's mower waiting to the side for you to play that's where your ball will be headed

I think it is something to with you swinging more controlled as you cannot afford to hit it the same shot again. Maybe a god mind trick would be to say to your self on the tee "I am playing a provisional" with your first ball.
