Hi

I'd like to organise a social evening for my Golf Club (I'm Captain this year for my sins!) around the theme of Golf Rules and would welcome suggestions of any tried & trusted formats. I had in mind a quiz plus an illustrated talk from an entertaining speaker. We're located in Dorset.

I've never been to an evening like this but it sounds like a good idea. It always amazes me how many golfers have a poor grasp of the rules at best. Maybe you could try contacting the R&A to see if they have any materials that might help..? Either that or talk nicely to PaulOH and see if he'll let you use the rules quizzes that appear in GM every month... :D

Contact the R&A and if they have a guy close to your club they will come out and hold an evening of rules q&a's.

We had 1 a few years back from an R&A rules man who lives not too far away and it was a good night.

Im sorry but I cannot believe this is a nights entertainment for people to get thrilled or excited about.

If it was a general golf quiz theme, then that would be interesting to me, but rules??? c'mon fallas, I can smell nylon from here!

The rules of golf are constantly being ammended or even changed, the original rules of golf have changed so much over the years they barely resemble one another, I know enough basic rules and many others to get by and if Im not sure I look at a up to date rule book as thats what they are there for, I couldnt ever see me sitting down to a club night where the quiz night was a rule quiz, I think I would fall asleep, or go home to watch a kettle boil or something.

I love a good quiz but a quiz about golf rules I would give that a miss.

Sounds a good idea. Too many golfers just don't know the rules. (Not that I know them all, of course!).
BTW Where are you in Dorset, if I may ask?
