The presenter of the trophy had insisted the comp was not a Stableford.

Previously we had run a summer gross score eclectic but this produced the winner from the same group of players every year.

To my mind, a Medal where you pick up after net double, and a Stableford, are effectively the same thing. The scores and leaderboard would be in exactly the same order. Unless it was net triple or higher that you pick up on? Sorry I missed that part - when do you pick up?

The maximum score can be set by the organiser but applies to all holes regardless of par.

I set it at the point where a player would get no points on a par 5 in a stableford comp, given that nobody in the group gets 3 shots on a hole i.e I set it at 8. On a par 3 a player could have played 7 picked up, record an 8 on the card and still be in the comp very different to a Stableford.

Highlight was after braying one oob on the par5 fourth and then nearly making a birdie

My driving range has a pillar between every second bay. I've always avoided choosing a bay with the pillar to the left/behind me as I'm paranoid I'm going to hit it with my driver. Yesterday I thought sod it, stop being silly, they wouldn't set it up close enough to actually hit it would they?

Yes they bloody would! I hit it with my first practice swing! I was right to be paranoid! Luckily there is just enough sponge padding wrapped around it that I don't think it did any damage to my clubhead. But that is absolutely the last time I choose one of those bays. Basically means 50% of the bays are unusable.

Although the range has changed a bit since this was taken, you can see the pillars in the photo here:


I think that main photo might have been the exact bay I was in actually. You can see how close it is. Daft set-up. I tried shifting the mat back a bit (further from the front) but I think he's glued them down as it wouldn't budge.

That mat needs moving towards the little barrier thing by about 18 inches (at least) and would solve the problem. I wouldn't think it is glued down, they just need a good yank and they move ok. It has probably been moved over time by people trying to line it up straight to their target, happen regular at our place.

Yeah - if I'm forced to take one of those bays due to others being taken I'll definitely be trying harder to shift it across.

Came here to say the exact same thing, looking at that photo theres ample room to shift that matt well out of striking distance of that post.

As mentioned though, that is a very old photo, the dividers for example have changed since then, so I can't swear to the fact it was in exactly the same position yesterday. Regardless, I shan't be using that bay again without some considerable mat movement.

Played really good golf for 16 holes this morning. Had one disaster when I went OOB and took an 8, but the card was still in decent shape.

On the 18th_I pull my approach into a bunker, take 4 shots to get out and end up with a 9. Card ruined.
