The wife has just informed me she has an event in Lancaster in July (Fri/Sat/Sun), she needs a lift down and obviously picked up again. Got me thinking I could take my bro in law and we could stay for 2 nights and play some golf! So my question is does anyone have any recommendations as to where we could play/stay? Preferably cheap and cheerful but doesn't need to be so cheap its bad!!

Thanks!

Lancaster golf club and Morecambe are both worth a look.
Theres not much else in the immediate area, but Windermere is about 40 mins away it's a bit short but I'm sure you would enjoy it.
I would personally stay in Kirkby Lonsdale it's about 25 mins from Lancaster but I suppose it depends how close you need to be.

if your in LANCASTER you must play the course there its a cracking track,or why not stay in BLACKPOOL not to far away and has 3 good tracks and is not to far away, you could try and get a deal at the de vere

I'm staying in Pine Lakes near Carnforth for a week from 16th - 23rd, so if thats the time your around, perhaps we can get a game together.. Morecambe is nice, a course with no par 5's

I can think of two in blackpool...herons reach and north shore. Stanley park is cheap but not PGA standard.

Morecambe is a fantastic course; one of my favourites in the UK. Word of warning though: it doesn't have par 5's because if the wind is up, some par 3's are 4's and some par 4's are 6's!!! ;)

Great course Lancaster can get a bit boggy though I find. Load of good courses in the area. If you are around Blackpool North shore is worth a knock, St Annes Old Links is a cracker and a bit further down the road in Lytham you have Fairhaven and of course Royal Lytham which are both fantastic.

Thanks for the replies! Had a quick look there at Lancaster GC as quite a few reccomendations, however it says no visitors at the weekend so that rules that out unless we can get down early enough on the Friday.
I'll check out the others, got plenty time to sort something out anyway.

Thanks again!

There is a little 9 holer near the university on a hill. It has an honesty box and is a bit of a secret. I quite liked it and played it a few times.

If not found Silvermere (near Carnforth) to be quite interesting, not overly long but interestingly shaped, may accept weekend golfers, due to being out in the sticks.

It's called Silverdale - ask taylormade Phil for a review. Still standing by Morecambe, Lancaster or Heysham. Kirkby not in great condition these days. The nine holer is called Forrest Hills and has been altered to 11 holes I think. OK but not great.

Lancaster is the best. Siverdale is dangerous with balls coming at you from all over. Consider Fulwood just North of Preston which is excellent, used to be a member there. I am a member at Ulverston which is 45 minutes away and is a good track. However lancaster is the one. They have accommodation, Dormey House or something similar and if you stay there you have tee priority at the weekend I think

I stand corrected. It can be a little bit bomb alley on some holes, but a few short par 4's around 300 yards, but impossible to hit in one, due to the sahpes of the holes. Nice though and not pricey.
