Looking for some advice on good deals for a 2 night 3 round or 1 night 2 round golf outing for 8 folk.

Saw some great deals on golf breaks south of the border. Dont really want to travel that far.

British open is on the sunday 19th july at st andrews and thats our provisional date for the outing. so im thinking most of the accommodation would be snapped up.

Heard drumoig is supposed to be good? Crail? Any other good courses at reasonable prices???

Thanks

Drumoig isn't great

Loads of courses, whether you'll get two rounds at a good one on a Sunday is a different matter, Crail with two courses could be a possibility - seen some decent deals for Fairmont St Andrews Bay (Torrance and Kittocks) this year. Scotscraig is lovely.

My side of the Tay, Monifieth (Medal and Ashludie) or Arbroath are both great options - or Buddon and Burnside at Carnoustie.

Plenty courses in the area but they do bang the prices up, I know my place are looking for £65 during the week and £80 at the weekend, it's good but not £80 good. I'm not sure of my work rota for next year yet as I could arrange something for you at Scotscraig a lot cheaper than the standard green fee

Accommodation is going to be the trickiest thing to sort out in Open week, the whole of North East Fife gets rammed. You'd get a much better deal finding somewhere further away and, if you wanted, only travelling to the Open as and when. Perth or Angus is probably the better option. Blairgowrie might be a nice option?

Bob,
Not sure if it's within your preferred area but our group go to Couper Angus, stay at the Redhouse hotel and we play either Alyth, Glenisla, Strathmore in the immediate area, but lately have tried both Kirriemuir and Forfar, with Forfar being the best of the bunch imo, get in early. Again maybe not far enough for you but we got some deal at Pitlochry this year.

Played Alyth Stratmore and Pitlochry again this year all really good courses, Strathmores greens were the best id played on this year, you'll get better value for money there that's for sure.

Steve. Heard scottscraig is nice. It would be the monday we would be looking to play 2 rounds. Is there accommodation near there mate?

Yeah mate it's 5 mins from Dundee, there's a premier inn right on the waterfront in the center of town with plenty parking.

Bob,
This year we got a round at Murrayshall and two rounds at Pitlochry with two nights accom at travelodge in Perth for £145all in, both courses included rolls and tea & coffee on arrival, we had booked Auchterader on the way up but due to excessive rain the course was shut. As i said we usually stay at the Redhouse hotel but went a bit cheaper this year and very handy for Perth town centre. It was only April to be fair but season officially started. If you want any contacts for any of the clubs just PM me m8.

As as has been suggested above both auchterarder and murrayshall are very good courses. If you didn't wang to travel too far you can stay at murrayshall and play the 2 courses it has. The Lynedoch is a bit shorter although also a but tighter too. The bigger course is a bit longer but with plenty of variation in the layout. Food at murrayshall is also excellent.

I'd choose the Angus route over Murrayshall - Not played Glenisla, but Strathmore and Aylth are both very nice, Forfar is one of my favourite courses anywhere.

Sound advice, Murrayshall is a total goat track ,played it once and never again, the courses in Blairgowrie are superb.
