I notice that document lists a couple of mouthguards, which implies that wearing a mouthguard is not allowed except for medical reasons. Can anyone tell me how wearing a mouthguard could possibly give any advantage? It doesn't make any sense to me. (Note: I don't wear a mouthguard - I ask purely out of curiosity).

Not sure how they got approval but UnderArmour produce a mouth guard and Hunter Mahan has been said to have won tournaments using one ....

How do they manage to quote hunter Mahan saying he wore one to win if they illegal?

you quoted the applicable ruling!

either he had a medical exemption that enabled him to utilise a device that, co-incidentally, gave him an advantage or it didn't give him an advantage!

Just when you think you have seen it all...
There must be something about golfers that gives the impression we are all daft enough to buy anything. Who would have thought it?
However, I was taught that I should try to swing with my mouth slightly open, as it is impossible to swing aggressively unless you clench your teeth and opening your mouth encourages a smoother and more rhythmic swing. It does seem to work when I can remember to do it.
I am not sure how a mouth guard would help in this way though as you would still be applying pressure and surely the harmful hormones the advert says are released when you clench your teeth would still be released?

I'm no doctor, but i remember seeing articles a few years ago about the fact that a number of injuries and pains start with our mouths/Jaws etc

I am pretty sure AC Milan (who are well known as being one of the best Sports clubs for Medical research/issues etc), had some of their players wearing them in the past. Also, i may be wrong, but i am pretty sure, one of the Molinaris (Edoardo i think) went to them when he had an issue and wore a mouthguard.

Yep, found an article confirming it - http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=golfonline&id=3417630

Right I read this thread, I did a bit of research and I've bought one. Looking around on the internet, I can't see anyone who has tried one and said they don't work.

I also made a bit of a boo boo and bought 4 so if anyone wants one to try I've got them and I'm not going to use them. So I'm happy to send one to you for £5 posted. just send me a pm.

I've got a pair of Under Armour SwingPower socks too. They prevent tension in your legs, and anchor you to the floor for extra power and balance. My 7-iron distance went up from 270 yards to 330. £50 delivered, if anyone's interested, drop me a PM.
