Is five years old too young to start golf lessons? If not, would anyone know where I find a list of clubs who may provide such tuition? (Am based in east Hampshire.) Many thanks in advance.

the pros at my club support a schools 'golf' programme. they use plastic clubs and balls indoors but learn the basics. That said there are also some very young kids being taught here, fortunately our pros are very, very good at teaching kids.

nowhere near you unfortunately.

Welcome Dudds to the forum.I dont think 5 is too young however the most important thing for kids is enjoyment. Are pro has early saturday lessons and he seems to be good with them.I find my boy learns just as much from watching and i tend to let him just hit the ball as he likes, hes 3 so imo a bit young for lessons.

Hi and welcome,
In my opinion you are never too young for lessons. (Look at Tiger Woods)
I would also like to congratulate you on your spelling and grammer for a five year old! :D ;)

Welcome.
The assistant at our Club runs a Junior Academy, and there are some very young kids that attend, its great to see.
I cant help in your area I'm afraid, but hope you find somewhere, and it will need to be 'fun' to keep a 5yr old's attention !

Wish I'd started at 5 !

Different people offer different opinions. My local pro wont teach kids under 7. He's of the opinion that they need to enjoy the game and find out for themselves what works and what doesn't work, allow them to play what comes naturally.

I kind of fall into his camp as they need to enjoy it at that age. My 3 year old hits balls for 10 minutes max, has a play in the bunker then wants to go and putt so he can put the ball in the hole. He hits it with the back and front of the club and just has fun.

I leave him to do what he likes.

I taught a load of 5-6 year olds tri golf. Tri golf is golf exercises that are fun and team based. They use plastic clubs and aero balls. One thing I would say is to make sure he/she enjoys it. Hope this helps.

If you are near my club, Blackmoor, near Bordon, give the pro a ring. We have coaching for all ages at the weekend. I am sure some of the kids are around 5 or 6, judging by their sizes !

I think it was Harvey Pennick who used to say that the best way for children to learn golf was to start at the hole and work back. That is to say, practise putting first, then chipping, pitching, full shots, irons, and woods in pretty much that order. That always sounded sensible to me and when my little lad is a bit older, I hope to try it with him.

seems a logical approach, start them where they have a chance of holing it, thereby retaining interest, and working back as they become ready for the next challenge.

anyone know of a 30 ft par 3?
