Golf is Saved!

Wonder if they will stop local councils giving planning permission to build housing estates on golf courses (e.g. Blue Mountain and Basingstoke)?

Hurrah, a parliamentary committee to support golf, what can possibly go wrong?

What odds do you give me on them having to visit many top golf courses both in this country and abroad first to get an idea for the current state of the game before they can publish any findings?

Sadly this wont help Blue Mountain GC . Construction starts on the BM site in April this year and theres nothing anybody can do about it. :(

The situation is quite a bit different with Basingstoke GC, I believe the members there have voted in favour to sell up to developers. I think the members get a new course on another plot and probably a cash windfall each as part of the deal.

But is a brand new course going to be as good as a mature course? I am a member of a 20 year old club and the course still has a bit of maturing to go! :mmm:

Shame that Blue Mountain is dead and buried but inevitable I think from the moment the ink dried.

I like Basingstoke a lot and play there in inter-club games.

Last Summer I was told by a member that the closure is still not a totally done deal and that there could yet be a stay of execution, however that may have been wishful thinking as I don't know what the official current position is.

Pretty certain we have a reciprocal and so I'd hate to see it go. Decent course

Yes, it's not everyone's cup of Darjeeling but I've always had a soft spot for it after winning the London & Southern Regional Association of Shop-fitter's comp there on my first outing in my second year of golfing. Happy memories :D

Luckily it it was an old hickory-shafted niblick on a full-length plinth, so there was even a bit of room either end of the inscription plate :D

Sat on my piano for two years as I only defended it successfully the next year
