Perceptions

Reading some of the comments on here gets me thinking. A 20hcp'er thinks a 5hcp'er is awesome, the 5hcp'er looks at his mates off scratch and thinks he is crap.
I play at an easy/hard course.....really? Compared to which other courses?

Such and such course is fantastic!! Actually, I thought it was a bit of a slog.

And the list goes on...............

Interesting... I get caught up thinking that just because some of my local peers get more course time they will be better. Not necessarily so.

Is the ability to change/ignore your perceptions over time as important as driving, putting, etc. etc. on the improvement journey? Is it more so?

"Good shot!" a pp shouts.... while you're cursing it under your breath.

"Well out" after you've put a bunker shot to 15'.

It's all relative I guess. I'd say 7/10 times my mates say 'good shot' to me I'm not happy with it. I'm trying really hard to not say anything now and just let them think I hit everything great.

One of the worst things about playing with low handicap players is they generally play angry

I stopped saying nice shot or anything positive as they just get grumpy

Interesting, I often find it difficult to know what to say when playing with low handicappers as I'd be happy with the vast majority of their shots. Maybe in future I should keep my mouth shut 🤔

I mention it as relevant to the OP's "perceptions" topic rather than a moan about playing partners.

When they boom a 300 yard drive on to the right hand side of the fairway and they are swearing at themselves because they meant to draw it to the left hand side lol

REALITY.

Lets get one thing straight, we are not on the tour.

We are not going to all nail 300+ yards from the tee and keep it straight time after time.

We are not all going to be able to go round in less than 4 over.

We are not all going to be able to put the ball inside 1 foot from 160 yards, half of us can't do it from 50 yards.

The majority of us who use Pro V1 etc, we should really be using a dunlop.

We should concentrate on our swing and stroke rather than ball control.

Lets be real, we play for fun.

If we wanted to be that good and be in the top part of the pyramid...we should of turned our hobby into a profession/obsession.
